"It's true: working with Hal is not like working with other contractors. With Hal, you are developing a relationship, not fulfilling the terms of a contract. For some that might be more than they want out of a contractor. For me, it was exactly what I needed. Example: I was talking with Hal about another matter when we both happened to notice some rotting boards on our deck. I thought it was unsightly, but nothing serious. Hal persuaded me that, without immediate attention, the rot would spread to the joists underneath, and what was a small problem now would be a big problem later. He replaced the deck boards on time and for the price he quoted. I can now rest assured I won't be plunging through the deck this summer. Along the way, Hal fixed some off-kilter gates in our yard, and also consulted with me about some stains on our stucco (thus managing to solve a problem that had stumped several other contractors). He's always on the end of the line when I have a home repair question. He's been there for me for some five years now. There's plenty of quality workers out there, but not many who will listen as well, contribute as much, and return as often as Hal Morris."

"The quality of work was very good, and the workers were prompt and nice to work with. David Marshall is very easy to get ahold of and I think this is a real virtue compared to other handymen I have worked with in Duluth. They called around and found a spring to fix a very old window of ours that we have otherwise needed to replace. All of these were very positive aspects of the interaction.
My only negative comment is that one of the projects (the custom door) ended up being much more expensive than I anticipated. I think this was because one of the workers suggested something that we did not have in the quote, and I was just not prepared for the expense. I think that this is more of a communication issue than anything. I still highly recommend Marshall Handyman, but I would just be very careful to specify the price of anything if modifications are made during the repair process, especially if you are talking to an employee and not David Marshall. Otherwise, good work.

"He was very nice to talk with and repaired our washing machine. He even helped sweep the water out."

"this tree service had a guy leaving their flyer at each door in the neighborhood. I usually don't do business this way. Chad offered an estimate on some trimming. Called him 1/2 hour later-came right over to finalize. It was end of day, so they came back promptly the next morning. Had about a 4 man team, and worked from 9am-3pm. Very courteous, professional, hard working, pleasant. They even put up with a ground nest of bees --brought out a sheet of plywood over it do they wouldn't get stung.Jesse Vosen the manager checked back throughout the work period. Knows his stuff. They are based out of Eden Valley, MN and come through our town for short periods of time in the summer. Their work was excellent , the price was reasonable compared to other estimates and work we have hired before, and they raked up the area they worked in, and cleaned up the mess on the road-left it clean.. What I appreciated most is they didn't give an inflated high estimate as some trimmers have in the past, who play games and go back and forth before you get to an agreed upon price. I would hire them again without question."
