"Competitive pricing; high quality work; timely service, friendly service, and outstanding warranty all describe this work done by Professional Inspection Service. They came back multiple times until all aspects of the radon mitigation were done to my satisfaction. Recent radon readings average below 1.0, well below the recommended 2 pCi/L. I could not be happier with the work they did."

"If possible, I would give Nick Mouganis of Mitigation Tech an even higher rating than allowed in this survey.  I have dealt with a host of contractors over the past 4 decades in servicing my home and 2 rental properties. Over the years, I' ve dealt inevitably with the good, the bad, and ugly. I've seen it all. <br /> Well, almost all.  Nick Mouganis and his Mitigation Tech are in a class of their own. They raise the professionalism bar to new heights. Nick called me back the day after I left a detailed message and scheduled a visit to the property the very next day. He was very informative about the work that needed to be done to redress the problem. And just a few days later I received a very detailed proposal describing the work, materials, guarantee, and cost. <br /> Frankly, I was very surprised at how affordable Mitigation Tech's system was ($1095) given the intricate nature of the work, materials, and the considerable amount of time required to install and check the operation of such a system. And I was delighted to learn that when all was said and done, there were no additional costs that surfaced. <br /> Moreover, I was very impressed that this work (including the exterior component) was completed within a very short period of time - less than 2 weeks - despite protracted severe weather, including torrential rains. <br /> In short, Nick Mouganis and Mitigation Tech are true professionals in every sense of the word. Your best bet if you're in New York State. <br /> <br />"

"Last year, we sought three estimates to take care of the visible mold in our attic. Of the three estimates, Enzyme Life Sciences (ELS) set themselves apart for two reasons. First, their price for the remediation alone was less than their competitors – hundreds of dollars less. Second, ELS does not perform repairs as the other companies did, which gave us the flexibility to do repairs ourselves or find our own contractor to perform the repairs at a price we found reasonable. ELS was more than happy to help us understand what improvements he thought we should perform on the attic and we made those changes after the remediation at minimal additional cost. ELS was prompt for every interaction and responsive with phone communication. I felt bad for Mike, our ELS remediation expert, as he came to perform the work at the height of last summer’s heat. He came down from the attic after the remediation sweating but maintained a positive attitude throughout the job. He even went above and beyond to take away some moldy insulation that I had piled up in the attic to dispose of myself. Mike left us with clear directions to run the whole house fan and dry out the stain remover. Minor staining remained after the service, which is not uncommon, but Mike spent as much time at our house as was necessary to ensure that the mold was dead. We recently sold the house to reduce our commute to work. The buyer’s inspector noted the remaining mold staining in the attic. Mike was extremely professional when I called him for help. He reviewed the inspection report and recognized the staining. He could have demanded an air sample to prove the accusation of live mold, but he didn’t because he cared about me, his customer, and our interest in moving through the sale of our house. Instead, Mike offered to come back out to the house and perform another treatment at no cost, which gave the buyers confidence that he was willing to stand behind his work. He also confirmed to our buyer that his guarantee would transfer to them, with a few reasonable expectations like “please do an air sample next time so that we know that there is indeed a problem.” In the end, our buyer was happy with ELS quality and customer service and we moved through the sale with no further questions or concerns about the attic."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Our inspector was knowledgeable and thorough. He pointed out Problems as well as noting possible ways to correct these. He also gave an online report. He was prompt and accommodated our schedule. Unfortunately radon was detected and the seller did not want to remediate so we ended up not being able to close the deal."

"This being my first home purchase I can only go off of what it seemed to me.  I thought the engineer was professional.  He had all the tools needed to do his job.  This included latter to inspect roof.  The report we received afterwards seemed throughout and helpful.  He spent approximately 3 hours in the home looking around.  Turned on all appliances, made both heat and air conditioner turn on.  Checked the whirlpool bathtub.  Checked the gas fireplace and chimney.  He looked the chimney over and he thought that it wasn't bad but that we should get an inspector to take a look just to make sure.  He gave approximate cost of what it would take to fix to chimney in his experience.  We did get a chimney inspection and he was pretty much dead on for cost and what the chimney inspector said.  Made recommendations and took a lot of pictures for his report.  Our Engineer was Thomas Wurzer.  The radon test did find Radon so that was helpful as well.  The total cost covers the Radon and Home Inspection.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Canandaigua, NY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
