"Mark came out to look at the area in question. He made some recommendations for size and design to match the style and look of the house. He sketched out the patio dimensions and provided a price. I hired them and they came to perform the work as scheduled."

"Concrete driveway leveling and crack repair work was performed to our satisfaction, by a 2 man crew, who arrived promptly at 8 am and completed the repairs in less than 4 hours. <br /> The work was expertly done. Almost half of the driveway had settled with resultant cracks and joint movement, caused by water intrusion into the substrate below the slab.  The slab has now been raised back up to level by drilling small holes in the slab and filling below with light weight dense foam, pressure injected. Upon completion of the leveling process, all the crack joints were filled with sand cement topped off with a flowable epoxy, thus sealing the joints. <br /> Observing the work as it was done, I was impressed by the skill level shown and, especially, the judgement of how much injection can be done without causing further cracking to occur due to over filling, or uneven filling. <br /> It is important for potential customers to know that this is repair work.  The intent is to make the driveway completely functional and safe. The evidence of it being repaired will be obvious but should, when finished properly, be acceptable.  The only alternative, complete demolition, sub slab consolidation and new slab construction, would probably cost at least ten times as much and much longer to complete. <br /> The two men worked diligently, showed a high level of competence and were very courteous at all times.  We were very impressed and would, following this experience, strongly recommend Acculevel, Inc. <br /> Myles Murphy <br />"

"We reached out Thomas Robert Construction after a big box store removed our existing flooring and left due to a subfloor issue. Tom was able to quickly respond and perform an assessment that included alternative solutions to correct the subfloor issue. He provided a fair quote along with a quick turnaround time.  He and his team were communicative about their process and installed the flooring quickly with quality results. We are very pleased with his work as our floors look great! We will definitely use his team for future projects; you can tell he really cares about your home. As an added bonus our dog loved him.  <br>"

"It went great This is by far the best contractor we have used for all of our projects to date. Joe and his crew showed up and worked until the job was complete and they didn't cut any corners to get done faster. They cleaned up the whole area even in the street. I would recommend him to anyone that needs work done. We are having him come back to do our siding and roof. Good quality company."

"Besides Dr Sweep, we have also asked two other companies to come and inspect our chimney. All three groups gave different comments. One of them suggested rebuilding the chimney for 6 thousand dollars! We talked to some knowledgeable friends and decided to go with Dr Sweep.  <br /> The group that did the tile insulation and crack fixing was great. They were also very professional and courteous. We are happy with the results and have been enjoying the fireplace without any problem this winter. <br />"

"We were very pleased with the outcome and the quality of our new patio.  Although small, it gives us the additional space we were looking for.  Kevin was very thoughtful about the work and the design.  Would call them again and recommend! <br />"

"My experience with N.C. Cement exceeded my expectations. I had a lot of work done on my new construction home. I had over 5,000 square feet of exposed aggregate (pool deck, 2 round sitting areas and bands on sides of my driveway and the borders of my motor court) and it looks stunning! The way they do the exposed aggregate is so much nicer than any other exposed agg jobs that I’ve seen, especially considering the difficult slope I have in my driveway. The concrete looks beautiful with the exposed aggregate. Every neighbor or friend coming by our house stops and compliments our driveway. Not only do they do great work, they are wonderful to work with. The owner Nick is a super nice guy and really knows his stuff. Same with Brandon who worked really **** ** my house. They are honest and literally stopped working on my project because my footings by my front steps were not done right and he was worried about me having fractures in my concrete after he poured. That’s what makes them stand out in my opinion! They are professional, honest, hard working, punctual and get the job done quickly. I would use N.C. Cement again and again without hesitation."

"My husband and I were remodeling our basement from its bones. We installed a bathroom with a custom shower as well as a bar area. Prior to finding Tom, our plumber had TRIED to pour our concrete floor as a favor while he was doing the other work, but needless to say it was done terribly. After having three quotes for our tile project, Tom was the ONLY person to notice the poor quality of the previously poured floor and shower pan - and thankfully so - within about a week of him giving us a quote the floor poured by our plumber had already started cracking (we already had "adventures" with water in our basement and this would have been disastrous). After removing the bad floor, Tom re-poured the custom shower bed and started fresh with a new shower pan. The slope for water to naturally fall into the drain is perfect (I can tell by just standing over it) and we have peace of mind knowing everything was done correctly. As for the aesthetics of our final project - perfect in every way! I need to point out that I am meticulous and hard to please. While I agree perfection in certain areas of home improvement may not be as critical as in other areas, tile is not something you want to go "cheap" or "it's fine" on. Go with an EXPERT not just someone who does tile on the side. Tom perfectly cut the angle by our steps, blended all the tiles across our floor very well (we had a faint pattern that he matched up so nicely from tile-to-tile) and offered a few design suggestions at our request, and we took him up on them. We also had the ceiling over the shower tiled and Tom suggested some beautiful marble to use for our threshold and a "half-wall" we have on one side of the shower. We love Angie's List but will not be using it for a tile man in the future because our loyalty is with Tom now. We would recommend him to anyone. Please see enclosed pictures of Tom's work."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Carleton, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
