"This wasn't the first time I had David Rittner do some electrical work at my home. He definitely had his work cut out for him because I have an older home and previous to my ownership, someone had really messed up the electrical work and things were also outdated. However, David is very knowledgeable and has a relaxed demeanor, which made me confident with his work. I know that he has made my home much safer. He completed everything in a timely and professional manner. After discussing the work with other electrical professionals, I've found that his pricing is very reasonable and he never suggests doing any unnecessary things. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again! More recently, he completed the following work... - Replaced/Updated two large panel boxes and labeled all breakers - Installed five electric baseboard heaters - Replaced eight thermostats - Replaced old electrical outlets and upgraded them to GFI, if needed. - Ran new wiring to repair a previously non-functioning light switch - Installed three wall sconces"

"Before listing my home for sale, I hired Cusatis to replace several outlets and upgrade my fuse box in preparation to sell my home. I couldn’t be more impressed with the work. Dave was professional, on time, and clearly knowledgeable about what needed to be done to bring everything up to code. The whole process was smooth from start to finish. He explained everything in a way I could understand, worked efficiently, and left the work areas clean and tidy. I felt confident that the electrical system in my home was safe and ready for inspection. Highly recommend Cusatis Electric to anyone needing reliable, high-quality electrical work!"

"Scott and crew were polite, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. They even took note of a slight leak in the shower and fixed it without my asking. Scott's estimate was reasonable and there were no hidden charges. A local gem I will enjoy calling on again when I need plumbing, HVAC, or electrical work!"

"We really like working with Ian. He was able to work with us on what we needed. Just wanted to replace a 50-year old electric panel that was not safe for our new house and bump up to a 200-amp service. Not we needed 200-amps, but it is nice for any expansion or future projects we may have. HIs team was quick and took care of everything. Even contacted the township for permitting. And the township even came by a week later to upgrade the service line to the house to accommodate the 200-amp service. Feel like we are in a much safer house now! Appreciate IEC and will call them for any additional or service needs! (old panel on left - new on right!)"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Carlisle, PA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
