"I initially contracted for just a bathtub refinishing. The tub ended up so sparkling and new looking that the worn bathroom floor looked horrendous. So I asked them about flooring, ultimately purchasing a floating laminate to put over the ugly tiled floor. We repeated the flooring in the other bathroom. The entire process was efficient, timely, and reasonably priced."

"I would recommend B&D Remodeling to anyone looking for quality work at a reasonable price! They recently completed our kitchen remodel which included new countertop installation, new sink installation, tile backsplash installation, and repairing some water damaged cabinets and we couldn't be happier with the results. Heber and his team were a pleasure to work with. Will definitely use them for future projects!"

"They updated both my kitchen and my screened-in patio and did a great job with both. They completed both in five weeks. They cleaned up after themselves. Discussed any changes or decisions that we needed to make together. I am very pleased with the work and would recommend them to anyone."

"Frome beginning to end, NCO was superb. Custom countertops have to be done with precision. The process is so distinctive, you get to select the exact slab they cut from a template they design."

"We started out initially thinking we'd re-carpet the stairs and the first quote was provided for that. But we found that our stair treads were actually solid oak, so decided to have the carpet stripped off & the treads refinished instead. As a result, the initial quote needed to be re-done, and in checking it carefully, there were a few errors in it. However, Krista was most apologetic and promptly corrected the quote.
There was also a bobble on the carpet installation appointment. We understood the carpet was being ordered, and that we would be contacted to schedule the installation appointment. FCI was aware that I worked from home on Wednesdays. So I was a bit surprised when the installers rang my doorbell on a Wednesday, ready to install the carpet, although we'd not spoken with FCI about a specific day for the appointment. It wasn't a problem because I was at home anyway. Apparently there was some miscommunication between the installers and the office as to who was supposed to confirm the appointment with us. Again, not a big problem in this instance, and even if I'd not been home, it would have been more of a problem for FCI than for us.
The installation went very smoothly. The installers worked efficiently, and I don't think they even took off any time for lunch. The entire upstairs was re-carpeted and cleaned up before the end of the day. You can't tell where any of the seams are, and they were very cooperative in leaving us any useful pieces of carpet and padding if we might ever need it in the future for repairs.
The next day the hardwood refinishers came, and worked just as efficiently as the carpet installers. This was a hard job, because the stairs had had LOTS of nails & staples in them from the old carpeting, as well as old, old carpet pad that had kind of "dissolved" into the oak treads. They sanded it very well, patched any holes, stained it & put the first coat of polyurethane on it. They also managed to get rid of all of the squeaks in the treads. The following day they came & scuff sanded the treads and put another coat of poly and applied the shoe molding.
They didn't have a good piece of shoe molding that matched what we already have in our downstairs to use at the base of our stairs where carpeting had previously been. We weren't happy with the quarter round they used at the base of the stairs, so we called Walter, who was very agreeable & came out to look. He quickly agreed that they'd come back out to replace the shoe molding with molding that would match the molding of our downstairs floors.(I purchased a length from the flooring company who originally did our downstairs floors.) They came back & took care of that, and in addition, Walter also had them put another coat of poly on the treads so that they are really beautiful, smooth & shiny. I did the repainting of the risers myself, and Walter gave me some good suggestions on what material to use to fill the gaps between the risers and the stringers before painting. The suggestion was great, and it's really not possible to tell, unless you know, that there were gaps between the risers & stringers now that they're painted.
The crews were all Hispanic. We didn't have much contact with the first crew who installed the carpet, simply because none was really needed. The second crew who did the stair refinishing was very easy to communicate with. The last crew who did the hardwood, was a bit harder to communicate with, but Walter was always easy to contact & very responsive, so we were able to communicate with him so that we knew the crew would be doing what we needed done.
Their price was better than several other brick & mortar carpet companies we spoke to, a bit lower than mid-point of all the quotes we obtained. The price was important to us because one of us is a teacher and by definition that limits our income (!). But it was the price coupled with the responsiveness, professionalism, and willingness to work with us that was the deciding factor in choosing this company. It was also helpful that they offered (at least when we purchased our carpet) a no-interest if paid within 12-months financing option.
We're very happy with both the carpet (SmartStrand Skillful Intent) and the refinished stairs. The company understood all our concerns and promptly took care of them, and in the case of the additional coat of poly on the stairs, actually did more than we requested. The price was good, and the service was responsive. We would definitely recommend this company, and would use this company again.

FAQs for laminate countertops installation projects in Cary, NC

With the right care and a professional installation, laminate counters last 10 to 15 years. Wipe up spills quickly, clean with a nonabrasive product, and keep hot pots off the surface to prevent warping or scorch marks. Limiting prolonged moisture at seams also pays off. Your installer can walk you through simple maintenance habits that will help you squeeze every year out of your new counters.

Yes—if the existing laminate is solid and level, a pro can bond a fresh sheet right on top. They’ll rough up the old surface, apply the correct adhesive, and make precise cuts so the new layer sits tight. Skipping steps can lead to bubbles or weak seams, so this project is best left to an experienced installer who has the tools to deliver a clean, durable finish.

Absolutely, you can give tired laminate a facelift with paint, tile, or a concrete overlay instead of a full tear-out. The key is thorough prep: clean, degrease, and lightly sand so the new finish sticks.

Follow the product instructions for primer, sealers, and cure times, or hire a pro if you’d rather avoid the mess. When done correctly, these updates freshen the look and add a few more years of useful life.

Mix baking soda with just enough water to form a paste, then spread it over the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Wipe away with a soft, damp cloth—don’t scrub, as abrasives can dull the surface. Repeat if needed. For stubborn marks, ask your installer about cleaners made specifically for laminate.

Laminate isn’t built to battle the elements. Water, UV rays, and temperature swings quickly cause swelling, fading, and mold. Even a covered patio won’t protect the material for long. If you’re planning an outdoor kitchen or bar, skip laminate and choose a weather-tough option like stone, tile, or concrete so you don’t end up replacing your counters after the first season.

Traditional laminate isn’t the greenest choice. Most sheets rely on plastics like melamine and can emit trace VOCs over time. They also can’t be recycled at the end of their life. A few brands now use recycled pulp cores, but plastics still make up much of the product.

If sustainability tops your list, consider natural or recyclable materials such as solid wood, stone, or recycled glass instead.
