"Very professional and straight forward. Had trouble getting electrical on at the home, and due to miscommunication by our realtor, and no fault of Paul's, he came before the house was ready for a full inspection. It was a huge mixup at the hand of our realtor, but Paul was great about it, even willing to come back out another day to finish what he was unable to fully look over with no electricity-at no extra charge. Based on what he was able to inspect, that won't be necessary. 10 hours after he started the inspection, I had a 45 page report full of pictures, and information. He found major issues with the roof, foundation, furnace, and sewage system... Among other things. Many lesser (but still pretty awful) troubles too. We almost bought a money pit! Now unfortunately, we start our house hunting over from square one. The only good thing about this mess is now I know exactly who to call when we find the next house we have interest in. I'd recommend Paul to ANYONE, ANYTIME."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I had another inspection of a home in New Buffalo, Michigan by another inspector (B-E Home Inspections) that was much more thorough, I got the full report within 2 days at about one half the cost ($350.00 Vs. $650.00) of Homesmithe.  <br /> I thought Randy Aldering (Homesmithe) seemed quite professional but probaby could have provided a bit more detail at less cost. <br /> I am not at all familiar with home inspectors in the area of Three Rivers, Michigan so I cannot say for certain if I would use him again or not.  Maybe the lack of inspectors in the area is one of the reasons the cost was almost double that of a normal inspecton.  <br /> On a positive note, Randy always took my phone calls and answered my questions. <br /> I described the home, location and square footage and Randy told me it would cost $430.00.  The actual invoice was $650.00 <br />"

"Words cannot express how positive our experience was with Homespect Inspections. My fiancé and I are buying our first house and were very overwhelmed with who to hire to perform our house inspection. We've heard horror stories of inspectors whose subpar performance lead to some major problems once people moved into their house. After hearing from a friend that they had a wonderful experience with Homespect Inspections, we decided to call and schedule an appointment. <br /> From the very first phone call I knew that I would be receiving a high quality inspection. Jim Willis stayed on the phone with me for about 30 minutes at around 5:00pm on a Friday, discussing in detail what the inspection would entail and thoroughly describing the Radon testing process. We decided to schedule the inspection for a Friday afternoon to fit my schedule which made me nervous at first because I thought he might try to rush through it so that he could begin his weekend. However, I could not have been more wrong. Jim performed an extremely thorough inspection that lasted around 4 hours. <br /> Another thing I was concerned about was Jim being annoyed with me for wanting to be at the house for the entire inspection. Those concerns were quickly dismissed when he told me it would be no problem and that "two eyes are better than one". He took the time to explain each of his findings and even offered some quick do-it-yourself fixes that I really appreciated since I am a first time house buyer. <br /> After the inspection, the report was provided to us within 24 hours. It was extremely detailed (20 pages) and included pictures. He also provided a cost breakdown for repairs of identified defects. <br /> I think the greatest thing about our experience with Jim is that he made us feel like he genuinely wanted to help identify and resolve issues to ensure we were buying a quality house. <br /> I promise that if you go with Homespect Inspections you will find yourself writing the same review as this one. Couldn't have asked for a better company and inspector. The quality and professionalism was outstanding. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Cassopolis, MI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
