"We were shown the actual video taken on the inside of our chimney. It was deemed unsafe to use due to cracked and missing mortar, we were offered a couple of solutions as well as cost for them.  <br />"

"Michael and Gene did a very thorough job of inspecting and cleaning the fireplace box, flew and chimney on the roof. Detailed pictures were provided so I could see exactly the areas needing attention and repair. Fireplace had not been inspected for a couple years, I now have piece of mind knowing we are safe to burn this fall/ winter. Worth every penny. Highly recommend."

"Robert was very responsive and told me that I could have my leak fixed rather than replacing my whole roof. He repaired the leak and I haven't had any more issues with it. A few years later he came back after a storm and was honest with me that I didn't need replacement after a few shingles were lifted by wind. I really appreciate his honesty."

"Tony Taylor did a thorough inspection of our chimney and fireplace and provided a report. Olde Towne Chimney replaced the crown with poured concrete, removed mortar from a previously botched repair and re-tucked with new mortar, and sealed the chimney with a 10 year sealer. Although we had a small problem during the two week process, Tony and his crews made it right. I am happy with the work."

"They got on the roof and checked for apparent problems. They couldn't find any obvious causes related to the roof, but they did suggest that it could be the chimney and suggested that we have a chimney company check it out. All of this was done free of charge. Very professional and courteous."

"Mike King's work from initial consultation to completion and billing was excellent overall. He was very thorough in inspecting our HVAC system and in explaining the proposed solution. He thoroughly answered all of the questions I had at the initial consultation and promptly and substantively responded to followup questions point-by-point. One part of the estimate involved improvements in the return air system, but could only be approximate since what needed to be done could only be known in the course of installing the new system. He was upfront about the uncertainty of the figure, but in fact the actual cost came in somewhat under the general estimate he was able to give. <br /> The Mike King crew arrived at the agreed-upon date and stayed on the job for 4 days until everything was complete. They were great about cleaning up the premises and hauling away debris. While the furnace and air conditioning units had to be replaced anyway, we were most concerned to solve the problem of a 10-degree differential in cooling between the upstairs and downstairs. The Tempstar zonal furnace system Mike recommended solved the problem completely. They noticed and fixed smaller elements (return air vents, direction of some blower vents) that have maximized the efficiency of this new system. Overall there was great attention to detail. When considering equipment, Mike King identified rebates available and promptly sent the necessary forms.  <br /> There were two issues with the work that should be noted, but this does not take away from the high level of satisfaction that we have with Mike King's firm: <br /> (1) Shortly after the crew left on the last day I noticed a drip from a pipe coming from a water softener near the new furnace. I called the office right away and emailed pictures of the leak. The same workman came back almost immediately and put on a new joint. About 10 days later the fitting failed. Fortunately I happened to be home and heard the pipe burst and was able to turn off the water. (It would have damaged expensive flooring throughout the house had I not been right there when it failed.) I made an emergency call and they sent another worker back the same day to do a more thorough fix. The firm could not really explain how or why this happened and is upfront that it does not do plumbing. But if so. the workman ought to have stressed that I needed to contact a regular plumber to ensure that the problem was taken care of. But it is consistent with the excellent service I received that Mike King personnel did not just say, "We're sorry, but we're not responsible for plumbing--you'll have to call a plumber to resolve this. Not only did they address the problem, but were very sympathetic and undertook to fix the problem right away.  <br /> It's possible that a workman did not cause the leak and that it could have failed anyway at some point. But it is a good lesson as to why it is important that any firm one uses should be fully insured. There could have been thousands of dollars in loss. <br /> (2) In cleaning the dryer duct, the workmen found and removed a bird's nest, thus averting the real chance of a fire. They installed a wire mesh screen on the exterior duct opening. A couple of weeks later, however, the dryer didn't sound right and I noticed that lint had built up against the screen, blocking the ventilation. I solved it by detaching part of the screen so lint would no longer catch. If they clean dryer vents regularly, this is a possibility the installers should be aware of and either not use the same type of screen or tell the homeowner to check to make sure such a buildup does not occur."

"David Hearne is good. He spent a long time out here with me explaining different things about the chimney, the chimney safety and different issues that people run into. He was very reasonable. I don't think the bill was more than $250 for both the chimneys. He gave me estimates to repair different things on my chimneys which I have not decided to do yet. Some are more urgent than the others. He is certified, licensed and insured. He is out of Lexington, Indiana, but he has to come over to Milford. He was very careful with what he did the last time. He does masonry work, fireplace reconstruction, dampers and caps. He spent a couple of hours here. I don't think there was really a trip charge, but if there was, then it wouldn't have been much for the amount of time he spent here. I had a lot of questions. I was getting the fireplace from another vendor because David doesn't sell fireplaces or wood stoves. So, I sent him notes about the different wood stoves and asked him about the chimney that I had to put the fireplace into. The house is older and there were a lot of different issues. He sent me many e-mails back and forth online at no extra charge. He gave me his opinion on the kind of things that I would run into or what my options were. He is a really nice guy. I think he used to be a school teacher. So, this is a kind of second career that he got into because I think his father-in-law did a lot of chimney work. So, he decided to go into this and he has been doing this for a couple of years now. I felt very safe with him in the house. He wasn't a scary repair guy. He was very professional, educative and knowledgeable of what he was doing. He was very happy to give me a lot of information. I would use his services in the future too."
