"Grant and his crew did a fantastic job. They showed up when they said they would, did the job just as described and hauled away all the debris. They removed a large bed of juniper without disturbing or harming our lawn in any way. I will definitely be using C&W in the future and would recommend them to anyone looking for that line of work."

"Fantastic! Connie and Greg Thompson and their team are the absolute best at what they do. They are on time, super responsive, and obsessed with perfection! We've never seen anyone work so hard to get the job done RIGHT. We have a huge kitchen that needed a significant update and they worked with us from initial planning to final wall color choices. Connie worked with us to keep costs down and that allowed us to put the money toward granite counter tops and a custom island. Connie is the quality control expert and she came by everyday to ensure that the subs were there on time and doing their job right. She even picked up things that we didn't notice and made the guys come back to fix it to her standards! Greg is like "McGyver", he can come up with a solution to anything and worked a miracle when my custom granite island top arrived with the center cooktop cut out wrong. The stone company thought the stone was a total loss but Greg came up with a solution that saved the entire piece by fabricating a metal strip to hold up both the cooktop and the pop up vent (and you can't even see it). That was a miracle because we could not reorder that specific granite and the stone company was so relieved and thrilled with his work that they paid him for his work and have actually asked him to help them on other "problem" projects. Greg and Connie run a family business and they are absolutely committed to quality service. They kept us updated at every step, we never had to worry about surprise costs, their subs were fantastic, and they always cleaned up after themselves so it minimized the pain of living in a construction zone. This is the third major project that they've done for us and we continue to be so impressed with their service and expertise (and we have very high expectations!). Our kitchen is absolutely stunning and every suggestion they made turned out to be the best decision ever! We trust them implicitly and will continue to use them for every other future project!"

"<p> </p> <p>The final product definitely added beauty and increased value to our home and was beyond our expectations when completed.  </p> <p> </p> <p>This is a very professional and pleasant to work with group and I now know why they are rated #1 in the three states they do business in.  Elliot, the owner, and Felesha, his site manager, (a combined 40 yrs. experience in the business) honored their appointment time, took measurements of the area to be worked, showed me samples of their completed work and we later discussed price, colors, and start date in Angie's List's correspondence section.  The work was completed in about a week.  The area was cleaned every day and at completion of the work.  </p> <p> </p> <p>Felesha, the site manager, has 24 years experience in all aspects of the concrete business and was onsite every day while the work was being done.  She would make helpful recommendations, spot areas that needed attention and help you through the project.  A comfortable feeling -- she was really looking out for you.</p> <p> </p> <p>A two (really three at times -- Felesha did the work with them many times) started the project -- Vick and Jose (they did the patio first) then Freddie was added when they started on the pool and spa decking.  You could tell that they knew what they were doing.  All these gentlemen were extremely nice, very respectful and professional.</p> <p> </p> <p>Of course this operation didn’t just get that way.  As a former aerospace manager I know.  I'm sure Elliot, the owner had much to do with -- an operation like this doesn’t just happen.</p> <p> </p>"

"Blair Remodeling replaced 26 of my old wooden double hung windows with Wincore vinyl windows. I first met with Craig Blair on April. He gave me a quote that same day. He was very patient and was definitely not in a hurry to leave, even though it was late in the day. He answered all of my questions. After I thought about it for a while he came back another afternoon to answer more questions and show the demo window unit to my wife. Again, very patient and in no hurry to be anywhere. Made down payment in April. He said they would install in early June. That is exactly what happened. The install took only three days. They started on a Wednesday and finished on a Friday. The install crew consisted of three guys. They were extremely polite and cleaned up their mess each day. There was only one major issue. There were streaks and smudges on every window. It looked like some kind of sealant that was not cleaned off during the manufacturing process. I met with the lead installer on Friday morning and pointed this out to him and asked that he clean the windows. He was very condescending and obviously did not want to clean the windows. He said he would but I knew he would not. I went back to work (my wife was home but said she would not enforce the window cleaning) The project was finished when I got home Friday afternoon. The windows looked great but . . . You guessed it. There were still streaks and smudges on all the windows. Not wanting to be a pain, I tried cleaning the windows myself. The sealant was very difficult to remove. It would not come off with glass cleaner alone. I decided this should definitely be Blair’s responsibility. I asked for a meeting with Criag Blair. We met the following week. He was very polite and patient. He agreed to have the windows cleaned and address a few other minor issues. It took a while, and to be fair, I was out of town for a week but we finally coordinated on having the windows cleaned. The crew that did the installation came back out. They came while I was at work. My wife was home but declined to be the inspector. They finished cleaning about 3 PM. They waited for me to get home at 4:30. We walked around and inspected all 26 windows. There were a few touch ups but for the most part they did a good job. In summary, I was very pleased and satisfied with the entire process. I will definitely use Blair Remodeling in for any future projects. Craig Blair is the best. I totally trust him and I know that he will do whatever is necessary to make sure I am satisfied. Hopefully, Blair will add cleaning the windows to their standard installation procedure."

"They did a wonderful job. It went fine. They came out in a timely manner. They gave us a full estimate and told us how it was going to be done. They came back and did the work fairly quickly. They addressed the issues that I had. Everything's fine and we don't have anymore problem. The price was $1500 less than Olshan. For what they did, I think it was pretty good because it solved the problem without messing up my basement. They also put up a dust barrier because they had to use a jackhammer to get through the concrete floor. That was really thoughtful and kept everything from getting dusty. They had a national phone answering system for folks that checked up on them fairly regularly and that was appreciated that they were actually checking on them."

"Banks Spiller was hired after I had met with and hired two other Concrete contractors to do the work and they never showed up.  Not only did he show up and start when he said he would, he did a fantastic job and had to work through some extremely wet weeks of work to complete the project.  <br /> He originally said the entire project should take 3 full days if the rain would hold off.  It ended up taking almost 3 weeks to complete due to it raining almost every day for 3 solid weeks.  He showed up almost every day, even on weekends to try and get done whatever he possibly could in spite of the bad weather and never once complained.  He called to touch base with me on a daily basis to let me know what had been done and where things stood.  He catered to every request I had and made a few project changes and never changed his original price he quoted me.  For example, he wasn't satisfied with the quality of soil in my front yard and was afraid the sod/bushes might not grow well in it so he brought in several loads of topsoil to ensure the grass and bushes would grow well.  He even reset my mailbox for me as a favor at the end of the project even though that was not part of the bid.  He was a pleasure to work with and took tremendous pride in doing an excellent job.  The end result was stunning and you could tell his years of experience really paid off in the finished work!  We've had a couple of hard rains and there's been no more water in the basement.  The french drain and excavation work he did worked perfectly.  The newly soded yard and circular driveway looks terrific and I've had several neighbors already compliment me on how great the driveway and yard look. <br /> I would highly reccomend Banks to anyone needing excavaiton, concrete driveway/walkway or sod work! <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Centreville, AL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
