"Timely arrival. Very professional. After they opened the drain they pointed out some leaks in the original PVC and asked if we wanted it repaired. I had them do it. The increase cost was minimul."

"Started with a Code 31 - pressure valve - ended with Paul discovering all the original contractor code and installation errors on a 5yr old furnace! We had to change out the too small 2” air intake / exhaust pipes. Paul had to work in an extremely confined space to replace the pipes with a 3” intake/exhaust pipe with minimum impact to finished ceiling and exterior walls. All work was in compliance with a City permit he obtained. In the process, he found the furnace circuit board had a factory “bulletin” that required replacement (covered by warranty). In the end, all work areas were repaired, painted, and cleaned up. He also discovered and repaired a poorly connected exhaust pipe on our tankless hot water heater that would have been a future problem. Paul and his crew did a fantastic job, worked long hours to meet our tight schedule, resolving many difficult complex problems along the way. Very detailed oriented - great value of services provided."

"I am getting ready to call them again when I acquire a little more money to switch from an evaporative cooler to refrigerated air.  Bruce is pretty good.  He seems to be pretty fair.  He seems to be pretty upfront.  We wanted some special equipment that he got and installed.  It seems to be working just fine.  We wanted some split air conditioning units installed.  It was a very difficult place to install them because it was a 100-year-old building.  It was in the basement so it was not easy.  He got them all fixed up.  They are working fine.  He had installed different types of units in different rooms, so it was kind of a big job.  Any time it wasn’t working or if there were a problem getting it started, he would have somebody out there and take care of it.  He was the lowest bidder that we had and we had several bids.  I think the price was pretty good.  Bruce and his crew did a really good job under very difficult circumstances.  They were responsive.  They were good about being punctual.  Bruce was very good at being professional.  We would absolutely use him again in the future."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Chaparral, NM

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
