With years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general contracting, we entered the radon industry when we saw a lack of quality. We design every system specific to your home with quality and longevity in mind. Many competitors have a focus on money and speed, we focus on quality and efficiency.

"Initially, Protech set up our radon mitigation system well. However, after having the system for nearly 5 years, we noticed the fan was making a lot of noise. I called Protech twice to report this and both times they assured me that there was likely just ice in the fan and we shouldn't worry about it and the problem will likely resolve itself. Sure enough the fan system failed. However, by the time it actually failed, we were no longer covered by the five-year warranty (we were covered when I initially called). When I called and told them about this, Protech would not honor the original warranty and it cost us nearly $400 to replace the fan."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I couldn't be happier with Aaron and his staff. He came to my house, a late-1940's constructed cape cod-style home I purchased in 2009 to give me the initial estimate, which was a fair amount cheaper than the other quote I requested from a competitor. NOTE: the cost cited here is the full cost, prior to reimbursement from the ZAI Trust (Zonolite Attic Insulation) 55% reimbursement. He was great to work with, very friendly, quick to respond to any communication and even retrieved the mail for me upon my request as we planned to be away from our home during the abatement process. He and his staff went above and beyond, exceeding my expectations for the final product. There was one area which was not included in the initial estimate as it was not visible during the original inspection due to being in a gable at the rear of the attic and covered by the existing insulation. Aaron and I worked out a very reasonable adjustment for this additional area and other than that everything went according to plan. The work was done efficiently, meeting all legal environmental requirements, well within the estimated time frame and I couldn't be happier with the end product. What a novelty to see the "guts" of the attic infrastructure after the abatement, kind of like seeing the sea bed after the tide had gone out. If you have vermiculite insulation in your attic and are looking at getting it removed, I'd advise doing it NOW while the ZAI Trust is still funded and with AMC Environmental as your abatement company. In the end, the 45% I paid for the abatement was MUCH lower than anything I had estimated in the past and now the attic is clear and free for future construction projects."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Charlotte, MI

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
