Small jobs welcome

"We had them build a screened porch on the back of our house. They did a great job in a timely fashion. We love it. I would hire them again without hesitation."

"Easy to do business with.  No real price deals.  Dinged them on punctuality because they showed up at 1130 vice the agreed time of 1-2PM.  My daughter just happened to be here so it was no problem, but normally no one would have been home.  They called about 15-20 minutes ahead and I assume if no one answered the phone they would have come during the agreed upon window.  The screen was purchased over the phone.  No pre-sale visit for measuring or to show the product (they said pre-measuring was not necessary).  A local Lowes had a single door version that we were able to see beforehand.  Apparently installation was quick and easy and clear maintenance directions were provided.  They were gone by the time I got home about 1245.  I probably would have bought a Clearview retractable screen because the return mechanism creates a more gentle return, but the only distributor in the DC area is Liberty Screens and they have been blocked on Angies list and have an F rating from the better business bureau so we wouldn't take a chance with them.  All told, Tri-State provided a good product, with little hassle, installed it properly, and I would not hesitate to use them in the future. <br />"

"I was a little nervous about ordering windows on the internet using measurements I'd taken myself, but I loved the design on the website so, initially I only ordered 2 windows to check the quality, my ability to measure accurately and the company's ability to build to my measurements. Jeff, the salesman I dealt with was attentive without being overwhelming and the first order was delivered in about 4 weeks. The windows were exactly what I was looking for and fitting them was a breeze. I followed up with another order for the remaining 13 windows in my porch and again, they arrived quickly, were of great quality, exactly to size and easy to fit. Looking forward to see how they last their first winter."

"The sunroom is wonderful. The room is made in a factory with solid foam walls and the floor is 8" thick to keep out the cold. We had some rain come in during a storm as the construction had just started despite the tarps Bills team had in place. I called and he was here within the hour to help remedy the tarp replacement. The screens role up and the sliding windows make it easy to open for cross ventilation. I am very happy with the installation and the final product. The price was a little higher than I had hoped but all said I got a great value and an addition that will last."

"Overall I was very happy. The finished product was great. Tim did a great job installing. Professional, clean, thorough and friendly. The sales rep was quite frustrating. From never stopping talking so he could listen, to never providing documented details for the project, to never completing drawings for his team, to having me have to Google to find what to buy. Or I'd tell him what I wanted and he often would tell me his wife is an interior decorator and she would suggest x, y or z - I had to keep telling him I didn't like or want her input (especially since she had never seen my place or talked to me). I literally had to create a floor plan so that Tim knew the job details - what walls were being painted what color, what walls got the new wall tile, what lights to buy, etc., etc., etc. The rep was nice but was completely unorganized - I had to do a lot of his job because he didn't. I finally got the owner involved as the rep was too frustrating to work with. The owner was very nice to work with. Any ratings I give that are below an A are due to my frustrations with the sales rep. Tim, the owner and the final product were great! Again, the final product - fantastic!"

"We recently purchased a home built in 1896 and decided to hire JC Smith to do the extensive re-model. From the initial assessment to the final walk through, JC Smith was a top notch general contractor. The scope of work and cost estimate were both on point; no surprises or hidden costs that threw me out of my budget. The design consultant was very helpful with the new design and material choices; suggesting good quality yet affordable products that would help me achieve the design look I wanted while staying within my budget. The job foreman was knowledgeable about every aspect of the work that needed to be done and always polite and considerate to inform me of all the daily details during the construction phase. He addressed any questions or concerns I had promptly and courteously; even when I asked multiple times because I just didn't understand. ; ) Even the sub-contractors that were brought in did great work! If I wanted something "tweaked" at the end of a particular job, JC Smith was quick to have their sub-contractor return and finish the work to my satisfaction. Every worker that passed through the doors of my home were considerate of the fact that it was my home and therefore left an exceptionally clean job site at the end of the day. To make sure that all the work getting done was to their very high standards, there were multiple calls and visits from none other than the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I can't say enough good things about this general contractor! Thanks JC Smith for a job well done!!"

"Hi, <br /> Just wanted to share my experience with LONG FENCE and DECK. Doug was the estimator that I dealt with, he came out and walked me through the process and showed me the structural issues we had to deal with due to a bump-out above our garage. He was very thorough and I was impressed with how he handled things. Most other people I had met with seemed to not want to bother with the job or told me I needed a structural engineer to solve the bump-out issue. LONG FENCE was able to work with our 203K Lender and our HOA which also impressed me. Once we got HOA approval and the permits taken care of they started work within 10 days or so. The work took about a week or so, partially due to the weather.  <br />  The guys on the job were a little bit messy initially, a few nails here and there, but they also helped me carry a couch in the house, so I can't quibble too much. I was happy with their work and with Michael and the office staff. I would certainly recommend them and would use them in the future. <br /> Andy <br />"

"Earl came armed with a brochure. When I asked if he had samples, he said we would get to those later. He flipped through the brochure after giving a speech about being a locally owned business. Technically, that's true. This is a franchise. Things were going well until the end when he wrote up the estimate. I thanked for his time and told him that we still have one more person coming, and then we would be reviewing/discussing and making our decision. Suddenly, a new Earl emerged. He got very demanding, forcefully asking over and over who I had already seen, what their estimate was, and who else was coming. I said I didn't remember who had already been here, as I've also been seeing people for exterior paint and porch repair estimates. I said it was in my notes, but I wasn't about to look that up for him. He asked again what their cost was, and I replied that it wasn't relevant and it was a different product so it wasn't apples-to-apples anyways. This really set him off. He started lightly tossing some papers, huffing, and saying he could get us whatever we need, etc. When he asked again who had been here, I said I had zero intention of telling him that information as it is none of his business. I then asked how long the estimate is good for, and he said, "Pfff... Well.. As long as I'm standing here." Part of his earlier presentation had been that they never offer sales and discounts, and how other salesmen will say the windows cost X but if we sign today, it's Z, but that Window World doesn't do that. So when he said that it was only good for as long as he was there, I actually laughed out loud. I said that we had no intention of signing anything today or until we have all the information we feel we need so we can sit down and make a decision. I tried several times to calm things down and get him back on track, but this was a man who was angry and seemed very desperate. I thanked him for his time, said we would be in touch, and motioned to the door. Prior to the estimate meeting, we had every intention of using Window World because our friends had used them and were happy. Needless to say, we did NOT use them and will absolutely not recommend them to anyone."

FAQs for sunroom or patio enclosure building service projects in Chewsville, MD

A sunroom is a fully enclosed space with walls of windows or glass. It allows you to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of the indoors, protected from bugs and weather. It functions as an additional room in your home. A covered patio extends your home's roof over an outdoor area, providing shade and shelter while remaining open to the fresh air. It's a great way to enjoy outdoor living while being protected from sun and rain.

Adding screens to your porch is the most budget-friendly way to enclose it. Screening keeps out insects and debris while letting you enjoy the breeze and outdoor ambiance. It's less expensive than installing full walls or glass enclosures and doesn't usually require permits, making it an efficient way to upgrade your porch.

If you're transforming your porch into a fully enclosed living space like a sunroom, you'll likely need a sturdy foundation, such as a reinforced concrete slab, to support the structure. For a simple screened-in porch, you might be able to use the existing floor and support posts without additional foundation work. It's best to consult a professional to determine what's needed for your project.

An enclosed porch can be considered a living space if it's fully enclosed with solid walls and windows, has a proper roof, and includes heating and cooling systems. It should also have direct access from inside your home. When these criteria are met, the space becomes an extension of your home's livable area.
