"Jack and his crew did a great job with the work we needed done which ended up being more complicated than we had anticipated. He charged by the job rather than the hour, which worked out well for us since his crew had to pull half the wires out of the electrical box to figure out what previous electricians had done in our condo. Jack and his crew were honest and efficient and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again."

"Called on a Saturday morning for emergency help after 1/2 our house lost electrical power. Received a call back from Barry one of their electricians. I described our problem and he immediately diagnosed a problem with exterior power supply from our power supplier ComEd. He recommended we call ComEd as their would be no charge if they repaired the problem. Barry gave me his cell phone number and asked me to keep him updated. ComEd came out and repaired the problem and restored the power as described by Barry. I appreciate the honesty of this company and their spot on advice. If we have any future electrical problems we will call them first!"

"Amer was fantastic! We hired him for some minor electrical work for our new home and he was on time, professional and very informative. He charged us what we believe to be a reasonable rate to do some re-wiring, grounding and updating of some outlets. He informed us every step of the way what he was doing and gave us some new home owner tips. Should we need electrical services in the future he is the only person we would consider. Look no further and hire Amer!"

"Daniel addressed a not so straightforward switch replacement that I had botched. Not only did have to install it right but also had to diagnose and replace the circuit breaker in the panel. He also had to further diagnose a wire that had been melted and address that as well. He showed great problem solving skills, cleaned up and was extremely professional and friendly. Even though the job took much longer than expected, he still only charged what he had initially stated. Would hire again."

"Had an electrical trip on circuit breaker.  Upon trying to locate and fix the problem myself, I was unsuccessful.  Al, from Mr. Electric showed up on time and he was very professional and friendly as he always is ( I have used him in the past).  He located the problem within 30 minutes and had it fixed approximately 30 minutes after that.  It was an exterior outlet that I had forgot to check.  It was fried, maybe due to a power surge or something of that nature.  I would recommend Mr. Electric to anyone needing work done and plan on using them again in the future. <br />"

His guys are very respectful, and when they were done, even washed the dust off of my windows. I received a quote that was cheaper from another company. Very happy I went with Genner. FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Chicago Heights, IL

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
