"The water heater was leaking and I call Wichhart Repair in the morning, and even though they were closing early that day they still came out and installed a new heater so we did not go without hot water.  They were very professional and also cleaned up and removed the old water heater.  Definitely will call them again and would recommend them to others. <br />"

"I called on Tuesday to request a service call on Wednesday afternoon(my afternoon off from work) and was told someone would be here between 1 and 3. A technician called to tell me they were on their way within that time frame, and promptly diagnosed the problem and repaired it. HERE COMES THE GOOD PART. I have done two previous reviews of plumbers in the area and in both cases work was done promptly and efficiently and professionally, but both were very costly for the amount of work/time required, in my opinion. I paid $52.00 total for this service. The previous two companies both had a basic service call fee SIGNIFICANTLY MORE than my whole repair bill was with Affordable Plumbing. THIS IS MY PLUMBING COMPANY FOR LIFE."

"The visit itself went well. We moved into our house April 1st, April 2nd one of many problems we discovered was a backed up sewer drain and a leaking faucet in the kitchen. My husband called Drain-Rite at around 9:30-10 pm Wednesday April 2nd and left a message asking for them to call back as soon as possible and that he understood it was a late call. (Their website states 24 hours 7 days a week service.) We had not heard back from them by 10 am the next morning, Thursday April 3rd so he called again and this time got an answer. He was told they'd been having voice mail issues and that they could send someone out the next day. He arrived around 9 am and was on time, very clean service and professional. He said our cast iron pipes had tree roots growing (the house had been empty for at least 8 months and the house is old as well) through them and that he was able to clear them out fairly easily. He recommended cleaning up some of the excess piping in the utility room to help with the water flow and we also asked him to take a look at the leaky faucet in the kitchen. He said he could attempt to repair it but because of the age if something were to happen without a replacement faucet we'd have to run out and buy one. We decided to just have him come back and replace it with a new one when he came back to fix the pipe mess in the utility room. He was scheduled to be here today April 11th at 9 am. My husband was off work today and home and had left a note on the door letting the guy know he was in the back yard and to come in. My husband saw the van pull away and when he went to check on the note he said the door had popped open and the note had fallen off the door. When he tried calling Drain Rite, the phone is disconnected. We have tried calling all day and no luck. The website has not been updated and we had no communication from their side in any way about the 'missed' appointment. We are very disappointed as we had really liked the pricing and service we had already received. We would be willing to work with them again if they get their phone issues and communication issues resolved. We are currently looking for a new plumbing service otherwise. The fee is very approximate as we are having trouble remembering the exact charge amount at the moment. <br />"

"In the May 2013 time frame they came out to fix water leaks around a couple of windows and replace damaged shutters. I was very pleased with the work performed, the professionalism, and the technical knowledge shown. Then several months later when several more leaks appeared in different areas of the house, I was glad I had someone to call, with whom I had a great experience with. They came out, took a look, and said I would be put on the "list". Weeks turned into months and then months turned into over a year. I called repeatedly and was told that I was still on the "list" and it wouldn't take long, they just needed to find that "one" day. I was always the one initiating the calling. To me it appeared that more lucrative jobs were taking precedence. I liked the work they did so much the first time I was willing to hang in there for over a year, but I finally gave up. I've rated them high for the work initially done, but a D for responsiveness and a C for professionalism for the second job that never happened."

"Calvin Colony is quite low-key; he seemed surprised that I would welcome a plumber with a handshake.  I watched him work and was impressed with his efficiency: there seemed to be no wasted motion.  The part he needed wasn't in his truck, so he immediately went to procure it.  He was quickly finished and checked to ensure that everything in the sink was working properly. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Coggon, IA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
