"I recently hired Fernandez Construction to pour a patio, and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. From start to finish, their communication was excellent—they were always timely and clear in their updates. The team delivered exactly what they promised and completed the job quickly without compromising on quality. The new patio looks fantastic, and I highly recommend Fernandez Construction for any concrete work. Great job!"

"The work crew and all their tools and equipment arrived on time and for the next three days they very intensively took out the old driveway, Installed rebar and reinforcement wire, built the forms and then poured and finished the concrete in a very professional manner."

"I called for a quote. Mr. Evans took the dimensions over the phone. I called the next day and received a quote by return call with a date set for three days later--a Saturday. With so many rainy days I was delighted that I could get the work done quickly. The crew arrived on Saturday. The dirt was cleared by shoveling and since there was so little, it was transferred to a border area with bushes. The concrete arrived and was poured by hand. After most of the work was completed one member of the crew remained to wait for the right times to smooth and finish the surface. A neighbor's dog decided to autograph the concrete with his paw prints--TWICE! The finisher was unfazed. He advised me to wash the paws to remove the concrete and removed any hint of the paw prints. I was extremely satisfied."

"It went wonderful. They were superior. They were on-time, they even stayed over the eight hours to finish up the little bit of painting that needed being done. They were very polite and professional. These people were above and beyond."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Collierville, TN

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
