Small jobs welcome

"Rob and Sun-in-builders saved my sanity. I was frustrated after nine other contractors left me high and dry in communication, follow through on scheduling to get a quote and unreasonable prices for our deck build. I received a call from Rob and decided to have him out to take a look. He was prompt and gave me a great price quote on the spot. His communication was top rate, He always called backed within a few hours of me contacting Him. The wood he used for the deck was grade A! Not that crap you get at Home Depot. His craftsmanship is top shelf as well. He had our deck built in two days. Well three days, but that was due to an overly anal retentive Inspector. He handled that with ease and class as well. I can't express how happy we are with our new deck. Please don't hesitate to call Rob at Sun-in-builders first for your projects. He will take all the stress and frustration out of your project. Thank you again Rob for an outstanding job!"

"We had a great experience with Path Hardwood floors. Not only did they provide an affordable quote but they took care of everything we needed and did an excellent job on our flooring. They were much more flexible than other companies in terms of working with our schedule and needs. Allen was very pleasant throughout the project. Highly recommend!"

"We needed a new lower roof and once the winter weather broke we got put into the schedule and the work was done promptly. Took them only one day to rip off the roof, cut out three bad spots and replace with new plywood. Then re-shingle the roof and re-side one wall. It looks great and best of all no leaks. Everyone was very professional, provided us pictures of the damage they fixed and left the property as clean as they found it. Great experience!

"The best experience I've ever had with a contractor. The owner, Isaias Caceres, provided expert advice on how to complete our project. His workers were highly skilled and courteous, cleaning the worksite at the end of each day. Our finished basement has never looked better than it does now, as a result of this work. This is a company that I'll hire again in a heartbeat."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Colmar, PA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
