"Jeff, Rob and his crew were exceptional They answered all of my questions even took the time to show me how things worked. They installed a water catch basin and sump pump to replace our smaller 25 year old equipment. Jeff suggested a better pump They were meticulous in their work and cleanup except for the new pump you would not even know they're there. I would recommend ONCE&DONE for any of your waterproofing needs Thank you ONCE&DONE"

"Our basement has always been damp and, at times wet when the existing drain system silted up. With this year's high amount of rainfall it needed something better. After some research on the trusty internet and interviews and quotes from 5 different contractors, Paradigm and one other company were the only ones who really seemed to know what they were about. Both quotes were about the same in cost and scope. I went with Paradigm over the other company primarily for the sense of personal responsibility I got from Andy and Ross. As the owners, they clearly take great care and pride in the work their company does from start to finish. The job involved excavation around the perimeter of the basement, including an attached crawlspace and peculiar raised section of the floor. French drains with all the trimmings, including silt filters were installed. The existing sump was improved, a second sump added, and new pumps installed in both wells. The walls were wirebrushed to clear away the efflorescence and mildew, then spray treated. Sump drains were linked to the outgoing sewer hookup (which was a problem, more on this later!). Work was completed in about 2.5 days exactly on schedule. There were two problems that came up, both resolved satisfactorily. Firstly, the drop cloths that did a superb job keeping the house dust-free on day 1 ended up releasing the accumulated dirt and fine silt into the air on days 2 and 3 as workmen walked across them, coating the ground floor with dust. They took extra care in cleaning both before and after day 3, but I didn't identify the source of the problem until late in the 3rd day of work. In the future, I would suggest cleaning, or at least beating dust out of the drop cloths after each day's work. The foreman was responsive and properly apologetic about the problem, and they did a fine job cleaning up as best they could at the end of the job. The second problem came to light a few days later, when I was talking with my neighbor. It turns out that sewer hookups for sump pump drainage were explicitly *not* allowed in our area of New Castle County. The patchwork of municipalities, neighborhoods, towns, and the City of Wilmington makes this a non-trivial question, as some places forbid these clear water hookups, some allow them, and some even encourage them! Paradigm had initially gotten incorrect information when they inquired, but confirmed that the hookup would have to be removed to pass code in our specific location. They returned to move the discharge lines, and ran them out to grade on the exterior of the house. This ended up causing another problem: a couple days later I started hearing a loud "glugging" noise coming from the discharge line on the rear pump, which was not draining properly. We had a battery backup pump on the old sump pump, which Paradigm was happy to re-install on the new pump. However, the check valve on that 5 year old, consumer grade backup had started to fail and could not support the much larger column of water in the retrofitted discharge plumbing. Andy and Ross came out twice more to fix this problem, once to figure out what was actually happening and a second time to remove the faulty pump, and to shorten and properly pitch the discharge pipe. I was impressed by the owners' responsiveness and professionalism in addressing these problems, and have confidence they will similarly resolve any issues, however unlikely, that may arise in the years and decades to come."

"I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"I cannot say enough about the work Brandon did. Our house had a dryer unit that died. It was inconveniently located at the bottom of our basement stairs, in front of our heater, and vented out into the garage. In addition you needed to jump the dryer electrical cord and squeeze in between the heater/utility sink to access the washer. A1 was able to re-locate all three items to the opposite wall setting up the necessary piping to do so. A new basement window was also ordered and installed. This was done quickly and efficiently. It is so much more convenient and functional. I will be using them in the future for other projects and highly recommend them."

"I had a wall in my basement that was filing up with water from runoff outside. The wall started leaking into my basement. The crew jackhammered a trench along the wall in my basement and installed a drainage pipe, fill and a sump pump. They cemented over the trench and it looks like they were never here. Lots of rain since then and my basement is dry. Timely and professional- highly recommend"

"Unique Indoor Comfort replaced my very old oil heaters with new high efficiency gas furnaces in 2 houses (mine and a rental). 120,000 BTU and 100,000 BTU. They were absolutely above and beyond anything I could have expected. The sales person that came out (Chris) was extremely knowledgeable and the prices were reasonable. The installs were done over 3 days and the workman (Ricky and Brian) were extremely professional. These were fairly complicated install jobs, but they accomplished them so smoothly and professionally, you would never know. The new ducting was immaculate, the pipes were run perfectly, they taped everything, provided a tutorial on the unit, and left it perfectly clean. I've had a lot of contractors over the years and I could not think of a better company to recommend. I almost never bother with reviews, but these guys definitely deserve it. A 5 star company."

"We had a French drain installed in our basement, along with two sump pumps. From what I can tell, the work was performed correctly and to the specifications outlined in the contract. I found Shawn, the owner, to be responsive, helpful, and pleasant to deal with. Overall, the crew that installed the trench and sumps arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the job in 3 days, leaving a clean basement behind. For the sake of fair balance, I will detail two issues in the service I received. The first had to do with the condition of my footer when the trench was dug. As they were digging, I noted that in one section of the wall, the footer appeared have been damaged by their jack hammering. Upon calling Shawn about this issue and sending him pictures of the damage, he stated that it was related to how large the footer was and how the footer was poured when the house was built. He also assured me that the footer was in good condition and the part they chipped away was not load bearing and had no impact on the structural integrity of the foundation. This seemed to be a reasonable explanation so I thought nothing of it. The second issue had to do with cracks in the basement floor. Before the work was started, there were one or two visible cracks in the floor. Yet, after their work was complete there were well over a dozen visible cracks. Upon calling Shawn again, he stated that his jackhammers could not have caused that damage and there might have been smaller cracks that got larger when they began working. I do not have photographic proof to dispute this explanation so I can only cite my memory regarding the condition of the basement floor; however, in combination with the first issue it makes me wonder how much care was taken when they dug the trench. Not being structural engineer or having photographic proof, I can not refute the explanations given to me, but my advice to others would be to photographically document the condition of your basement prior to getting work done and carefully watch the work being performed."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Conshohocken, PA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
