"Mario installed a new drip irrigation system to replace the old broken sprinklers, and he installed a new front yard based on my design. He carefully reviewed the design and recommended some alternatives to the plants/sizes called for in the design. These changes saved me money and would require less maintenance which was important because I was tired of maintaining a front lawn. Mario was a super professional, he responsed promptly to messages and kept me advised of his schedule so i knew where he was in the job and what was coming next. He takes tremendous pride in his work and actually did most of it himself. The workspace was left clean each evening and in just a few days I had a beautiful new yard and irrigation system. I have never been so pleased with a contractor and recommend Mario highly."

"There was evidence of termites when construction began so the builder assumed I would need a full termite service. Hydrex inspected and found termite problem is in the past. Could have easily jacked me up for some kind of service but instead they were honest and did not even charge for the inspection. So grateful!"

His son, Robert B. Loibl, Jr., began working and learning from his father after school and on Saturdays. He later started the Lloyd Pest Control Company in San Diego, and was a partner with his father in L & N Pest Control. As well as developing a very successful state wide franchise with Hydrex Pest Control, he also held a number of patents. "This was our second time using Tom's Environmental Care, and I doubt it will be the last! Tom came out to give us an estimate, and spent 30 minutes making sure he fully understood what we were requesting. He provided the quote on the spot, and we scheduled the time with him a couple of weeks later.

His two man team arrived on time at 8:30 am, and got to work right away. They were very professional and polite, and started the project by walking around the house with my wife to be certain what we wanted.  The dug out and put into pots 4 large "Heavenly Bamboo" plants. The remaining plants we simply wanted removed, and many of them were large shrubs that had been growing for 40+ years around this house. These two gentlemen worked tirelessly! They not only dug the plants out, but they dug out all the roots too. We had several decorative rocks amongst the plants they were removing, and they did a great job getting the plants out but not breaking the rocks or just shoving them in a pile - instead, the smaller ones were put into a bucket for us, and the larger ones were placed near where they had been before. They hauled away all the debris (two tuckloads!), and left the yard very clean. For the plants they trimmed, they did it by hand and did a great job. They cut them back, but did it carefully, so the plants still had the right shape and will grow in evenly.

When they left, all that was left behind was clean patio / entryway, bare, level earth, and nicely trimmed shrubs.

When he gave us his estimate, Tom also offered to spend some time with us at local nurseryies to pick out the replacement plants, based on the theme/look we want, and then bring them to the house and install them. Given our past experiences, we'll be taking him up on that!"

"I prefer not to disclose the amount that I spent on their services.  I wouldn’t suggest using them.  My husband and I are in our seventies and we can’t do anything much anymore.  I asked them if they would come back every three or four months and check and see how things are for maintenance.  I asked if they had a maintenance programme and they said they did.  So I gave them a call and they said that they would call back.  I can’t tell about the timing because they never did call back.  They were not so responsive.  If they weren’t interested in doing the maintenance work, they could have just told me.  I could have found someone else.  They gave so many reasons for not calling back like the receptionist was at the doctor’s or the guy was not available.  That’s kind of bad.  They could have just said that they didn’t have a maintenance programme and that was fine.  I did hire someone else who is doing a maintenance programme for me.  I think Wilhelm Sprinkler Co over charged me but that’s okay.  I thought they would have had a certain level of professional quality but it wasn’t like that.  They were responsive and punctual until that time.  I will not use their services again in the future."

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in Costa Mesa, CA

The optimal transplanting season depends on your tree species, but most trees respond best when moved during dormancy. For deciduous trees, late fall after leaf drop or early spring before bud break provides the lowest stress periods. Evergreens transplant better in early fall or late summer when soil temperatures remain warm enough for some root growth. Avoiding transplanting during active growth periods helps trees direct energy toward establishing new roots rather than supporting foliage.

While technically, trees of any size can be transplanted with the right equipment and expertise, practical considerations limit what's reasonable for most homeowners. Trees with trunk diameters under 15 inches are most commonly transplanted in residential settings. Success rates decline as trees increase in size and age, with specimens over 24 inches in diameter presenting significant challenges and costs. For large trees, carefully weigh the substantial investment against the potential benefits and survival probability.

Most transplanted trees require one to two years to fully establish in their new location, with larger specimens often needing additional time. During this establishment period, the tree regenerates roots that were inevitably lost during the move. Signs of successful establishment include normal seasonal growth patterns, healthy leaf development, and reduced dependence on supplemental watering. The quality of aftercare during this critical period significantly influences long-term survival rates.

Self-transplanting is feasible for small trees with trunk diameters under two to three inches if you have proper tools and follow correct techniques. However, medium to large trees require professional expertise and specialized equipment to ensure tree survival and property protection. While professional services cost more initially, they achieve much higher success rates and prevent potential damage to your property or the tree itself. The investment in professional services often proves worthwhile when considering the value of mature trees.
