"Had a 26 year old hot water heater that did not leak, but was proactive to obtaining a quote for replacement. I contacted Birch Plumbing based on reviews of other Angie List customers and they quoted a fixed price of $850.00 for a 40 gallon natural gas Bradford white unit. I did ask them on the phone if there could be other charges above that and they stated at times they may need to replace the vent pipe from the old furnace. Typically not over $40.00 charge. I authorized a service call for that Friday and they arrived on time and very professional. Once they saw my unit, I needed to have " tall boy" unit that would cost $40.00 more. Fair price. So they completed the removal and installation of new hot water heater in less than 2 hours for a total price of $890.00. Did not have to replace the vent pipe. One year warranty on parts and labor with a 6 year warranty on tank. Excellent job!!"

"Everything was done on time, even finished before due date! All workers were professional, friendly and trustworthy. All did excellent work; I have no complaints whatsoever. Steve designed the bathroom for me, and worked with me to choose all of the tile, fixtures, and cabinets. The general contractors, Dan Turman and his son Mike Turman were awesome -- they made sure everything was done perfectly. I had plastic plumbing, so a special plumber had to be hired - Cory W. -- he was awesome as well. Another fabulous father/son team, Derek & Jason Dill, installed the tile, which is beautiful -- they even did a special touch with a pipe they had to work around and made it look like a tiled column. I'm very pleased with all of the work. The shower glass walls & door look great too."

"I called on a Wednesday morning at 8:15 stating that my water heater went out. There was a technician at my house within the hour who removed the old tank and installed the new tank in 4 hours. He also discovered that our expansion tank was faulty and replaced that too. For an additional $65 he added a tray for the water heater to sit in and an alarm that will sound if the water heater begins to leak (which is a nice feature when you have a finished basement)."

"We built our home in 2006, and had Norstar install the HVAC. The blower motor in the furnace dies on Thanksgiving evening. We called Norstar the following morning, and they wanted to treat the day after Thanksgiving as a double-overtime-holiday charge. Inm any event, parts wouldn't be available right away anyway, and the service call would be about $700 with parts.
I called Anderson, as they were an authorized dealer for our brand of furnace. They sent someone out right away. She was able to get it running well enough until the parts arrived. The service call was $79, the blower motor was between $150 and $250, I don't remember, but a LOT cheaper than what Norstar wanted, and prices are largely set by the manufacturer. No bogus and quot;day after Thanksgivingand quot; surcharge.
Anyway, Anderson hit a homerun on responsiveness, punctuality, professionalism and even a genuine concern for their customers being without heat.Since that service call, Norstar has gotten out of the consumer HVAC business. Anderson would have my future business either way."

"EXCELLENT! This company is kind, family owned and SUPER RESPONSIVE! They came out the very next day after scheduling quickly and solved our problem without any hassle or changes to their estimate. By the way we saved $125 going with them rather than the other company we were considering. Also, they completed the work at lightning speed thoroughly and then asked for payment. No deposit request, no red tape, just professional work and courtesy from start to finish, and I know what I am talking about since I have 13 years experience in residential, commercial and industrial construction."

"I purchased an "Angie's Big Deal" to have three small jobs done at my home. I needed a toilet put in place in my powder room, a faucet changed in my kitchen, and a water filter installed in the kitchen. These three projects took longer than expected and I ended up paying for additional labor time. The installer encountered a few problems installing the water filtration system and had to come back out to correct them. Phone calls were returned promptly and follow-up before, during, and after the projects were completed was good."

"From beginning to the end the project went smoothly. Will have them remodel my master bathroom. The install went fine and finished before expected. I had a follow issue with a pipe a few days after the remodel. The contractor was great and helped me out greatly. The guy I talked to on the phone was a d*** tho. I wasn’t fighting having to pay but he was getting loud about it. Trying to convince me to pay and I had to stop him or he would of kept going. If that was my first interactions with this company I would of not had the work done."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Davis Junction, IL

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
