"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Denny has been extremely thorough and he spent over 4 hours to inspect my house. He took time to explain how the house works and possible maintenance and improvements. He even went a lot of extra miles in testing the appliance, which is out of the scope of home inspection. His report was so timely, professional and easy to read. After that, he was extremely responsive and helpful to advising the basement leak he found. He has been a great advisor. I am so glad I hired him for my home inspection! I would highly recommend him regardless you are experienced or inexperienced home buyer like myself. <br />"

"It went great.  He was very quick and did very good work.   <br /> Started with the toilet.  Removed that, put a seal on the drain and caulked it.   <br /> Next he took the plumbing out of one wall and ran it over to where the washing machine would be.   <br /> *At this time I was doing some demo in the adjoining room, removing some drywall and trim.  As I was pulling trim off, i heard a leak. looked down... previous owners had nailed trim right into the copper at the floor level.  *SIGH*  I suppose if you're going to have that happen, it's best to have a plumber on hand.  He switched gears, went and got some tools, drained the line, and had it fixed within about 10 minutes.  I was thrilled.  It was in a hard to reach spot just at floor level between the joists, but he made it look easy. <br /> After that, he finished installing the washer hook ups and was done.  He was friendly and courteous and I have used them again since then to help me re-run some gas line.  I will definitely use them in the future as well. <br /> Highly recommended. <br />"

"I am selling my house and the radon test came back high. I got quotes from several vendors and Central Illinois Radon Mitigation was several hundred dollars lower than their closest competitor. They offer the same 5-year transferable warranty and are licensed, so it was an easy call who to go with. From quote to completion it took less than two weeks to get the system installed. David and the other installer were very attentive to cleanliness, using drop cloths throughout the house and cleaning up the work area when they were done. My only complaint is that they disposed of the gravel they removed from under the house in my backyard and I didn't find it until later."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Deer-creek, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
