"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"It went fabulously! Dave and Lisa were absolutely wonderful. They arrived on time (a little early, even); and took just over three hours to complete the inspection. They were professional and courteous; patient with my husband and I (we had a lot of questions!); and great at explaining things to us in terms we could understand. They were very thorough, even though we had only purchased a basic inspection. The report they provided after the inspection was complete was easy to understand and wonderfully put-together. The house we bought is pretty old--there were quite a few things "found" during the process, but Dave and Lisa helped us understand which things were normal with an older house, so did not need much attention--and which things were major concerns that needed repair right away. I would say the services they had provided were worth every penny--and then some. FYI--they're also very, very budget-friendly in terms of pricing in comparison to other home inspection providers. All around--a fantastic find! <br />"

"Doug went above and beyond to clear up our radon gas issue. He and his team did an excellent job in the crawl space, and installing the pipes outside. He is very professional, but also very kind and caring! We highly recommend him."

"Steve was at the beginning of the inspection when I arrived and was very nice about me tagging along and asking questions.  He went through the entire property in detail and was very helpful in our final decision making process for a home purchase.  He set the Radon test and came back a few days later for the results. Was great, as always!"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Douglas, MI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
