"I had my air ducts cleaned by TopTec and couldn’t be more impressed. Mostapha and Jesus were the technicians, and they were both fantastic — super professional, friendly, and incredibly thorough. They took the time to explain the process, answered all my questions, and treated my home with care and respect. The results speak for themselves. If you're considering duct cleaning, don’t look any further. TopTec is the real deal!"

"We needed a repair on the pipe from the house to the septic tank, but we didn't know it. Strange blubbing sounds in our basement bathroom and a then a clog that caused a back up in the laundry room were clues. Fernando investigated and able to figure out exactly what was happening and what to do to fix it. He was able to schedule the work when we would be out of the house so the water could be off for a couple days. He is a trustworthy and kind friend as well as our plumber. I would recommend him if you have a plumbing problem."

"I have hired Permaseal to fix my unleveled patio concrete floor that was and still causing rain water to get to my basement, I have paid them $2,014.33 as down payment, they showed up one month later for the job, which is injecting foam under the concrete slab to lift it back to its original correct level. I came back home that day to find out that they have left and that the concrete slab was not only still unleveled, but they cracked it and patched it on multiple locations. I have called their customer care number more than a dozen times in attempt to understand what is going on, and on each occasion, I was told that the project manager was going to contact me back, which never happened until i made the next call, They have finally explained to me over the phone that it was the best they could do and that they could not fix my patio floor. I asked for a refund and did not hear back. I have documented pictures of before and after showing that the job was not done and cancelled the check with the remaining balance. I have not heard anything back from them since then, until i started getting debt collectors' emails on December the 5th from a business called FCR Services."

Customers say: Quick response

"I wanted to replace my kitchen faucet but there was no need. The repair person was very upfront and honest and that saved me a lot of money. He tightened a leak and put on a water purifier. In Addition, very professional, honest, and on time for the start of work! He more dedicated to his company then most owners. Yes, I would highly recommend DLA Sewer & Drain to homeowners and businesses. Thank you!"

"I contacted PSP Plumbing based on Angi's recommendation. They came out within a day to evaluate our sewer line situation. Another plumbing company quoted us a huge price (many thousands) and claimed we had an urgent situation, and PSP knew that. They could easily have tried to sell us a big job. Instead, after doing another camera (2 hours of 2 people), they charged us the price we had agreed on in advance and told us not to waste our money on the big job. Just regular maintenance of our line. We will definitely get them back out next year for maintenance. Happy to recommend them - very honest people. "

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Downers Grove, IL

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
