"When I called and left a message for Darrell, he returned my call right away. He explained that replacing my shutters would probably take a day, and he could do the job between his other, bigger jobs, calling me the day before he planned to come. That was fine with me - I understood it's not a huge job, I wasn't really in a big hurry, and my schedule is very flexible. He called a few weeks later, saying he's coming the next day at around 8am, and sure enough, he showed up when he said he would! That alone scores points! My husband and I had purchased replacement shutters from Lowe's already, so Darrell's job was just taking down the old ones and putting up the new ones we already had. After a short time, he told us something we hadn't noticed: the first-floor shutters are longer than the second-floor shutters. We just measured the one that was knocked off the second floor, and bought the same size for all the windows. Darrell went to a local building supplier right away and brought back a sample wheel for us to choose from, and we did. Before he committed to the purchase, he figured he'd go to Lowe's and see if they had the same thing we bought, only in the proper, longer size. Well, they did, and he bought them. Lowe's has a great return policy, so we just returned the original ones that didn't fit - no problem! Darrell did a great job and explained how the way he screwed the new shutters in would be sturdier than the original ones. They'll probably last at least another 16 years, probably longer. Darrell was very polite, friendly and respectful. He did all this running around in the morning and still finished the job by about 2pm! His actual labor charge was $350 ... the remaining was the cost of the shutters he purchased for us. We'd hire Darrell again in a heartbeat!"

"We found Harvey on Angie's List and used a coupon for his services. We asked for home repairs needed as part of a home inspection report in order to sell our house. Harvey was very professional, did both electric and plumbing repairs correctly and billed us with a nice looking invoice. As luck would have it, during the buyer's final walkthrough inspection on a Saturday morning they found our home to have no heat and a leaking valve from the upstairs bathroom that caused a very large wet spot on the kitchen ceiling. We called Harvey in a panic. He told us he would come out right away ON A WEEKEND to help up. He did the plumbing repair and helped with the heat. He was very quick, accommodating and he was positive in a situation we could only see negativity. We can't speak highly enough for Harvey's services and would recommend him to family and friends. AAA from us..... He's a good person to have on your speed dial phone for services!"

"I had called 2 roofing companies and could not get them to come look at the problem.  Handyman Matters sent someone out to look at the problem the week after I called and they gave me a ballpark estimate to make the repairs.  They did not charge for the estimate.  I scheduled the work to be completed within 2 weeks of receiving the estimate.  They worked with me to schedule the work at a time convenient for me and also for when the weather forecast was favorable.  The repairman (Scott) arrived on time and began working.  He removed the siding where needed and found the source of the leak to be incorrectly installed flashing.  He repaired the flashing and also removed and replaced the shingles and roofing that had rotted.  Scott advised me the flashing was incorrectly installed and was pushing the siding away from the house all along the top of the roof.  He told me he could fix it if I wanted him to, even though it wasn't absolutely necessary.  Since he was available and I figured it may cause a problem later on, I decided to let him go ahead and fix it.  Scott had to go get some materials, but quickly returned and worked hard to get the work done just before dark (4-1/2 hours).  I had to pay a service charge on the repair visit and also a charge for disposal of the old shingles and roofing.  But I did get a $25 Angies List discount!  I was very happy to get my roof repaired before winter as the leak would have only gotten worse.  I would not hesitate to call Handyman Matters again. <br />"

"The sliding door from our dining room to out deck needed replaced.  Elden and his son replaced the door.  The new door was an inch wider than the old door which required that they enlarge the opening.  They did an excellent job and completed it in one day.  While they had the side of the house open, after removing the old door, Elden discovered that the people who installed our deck years ago did not attach the ledger to the joists, only to the particle board under the siding.  This was allowing the deck to pull away from the house.    For the price of a dozen bolts, he attached the ledger firmly to the joists behind it.  This secured the deck to the house and probably saved us a lot of grief, and possibly injury, later on. <br /> Elden and his son also replaced the aluminum covering all of our window and door frames.  He does a nice job and puts bends in the aluminum that make it look more like wood instead of a simple aluminum box around the frame.  He completed the aluminum work in an additional day. <br /> The front of our house has a combination of brick and vinyl siding and we have a brick chimney against vinyl siding.  Elden noticed that the joints between the brick and siding were not sealed.  He sealed them with clear silicone caulk for a minimal charge. <br /> We have been very pleased with the work Elden and his son do for us and will hire him again whenever we have work that needs done around our house. <br />"
