"My husband & I are delighted with the team that helped us get our dream sun & garden room and our covered patio. The team that worked with us deserves special mention for their work ethics & competence. They were so wonderful to work with & had high integrity. Miguel on the large, extensive concrete work. Vlad on the wonderful execution on building the Covered Patio & Sunroom & all the electrical work. Mike on multiple projects. Carlos on the porcelain tiles. Scott & Abe for hearing us out on our concept of what we needed & addressing our concerns. We highly recommend California Sunrooms, their products & the individuals above. We couldn't have asked for a better team. Happy customers, Lucy & Praveen Chaddha"

"Do make sure you and your contractor understand each other and explain exactly what you need and want.  Most often
old homes will have problems with dry rot, termites, old electrical and a good contractor lets you know you have these problems and will give you an estimate of what it will cost to fix them.  My opinion is if you are going to have a job done you should not mask problems.  We were fortunate not to have had dry rot.  The bones of our house was in very good condition.  However, our electrical panel was going to need replacing.  If you have your home already open to reside or whatever you are doing the extra time and cost is worth it.

Do check for licesne that is current.  No what type of permits will be needed."

"We had an old patio cover that needed replacing, so I contacted several companies and received bids. We chose Sierra Sunscreen--nobody else came even close to Dan's professionalism and expertise, and the quality of what he offered. He was extremely easy to work with, spent a lot of time helping us decide on the details, and his price was very competitive. His installers were courteous, efficient, timely, and the quality of their work more than met my expectations. I would highly recommend Sierra Sunscreens."

"Thank you Chriswell Home Improvements for an amazing Bathroom remodel! I would like to share my five star experience with Chriswell home improvements. After searching for awhile and having more than a few companies over to see the bathroom that was to be remodeled and get an estimate, I decided on Chriswell and I’m glad I did. Richard and Amanda came over and I appreciated that they worn masks. They looked at the bathroom listened to my needs and wants, took measurements and then we sat around the kitchen. They figured out a few different possibilities for the bathroom all the time showing me how everything broke down and answering any question I had. We finally settling on what worked best for my family and budget. This was super refreshing after having several contractors and companies simply pop there head in the bathroom take no measurements and quote some crazy price out of what seemed to be thin air. Thank you Richard and Amanda for listening and making my Bathroom remodel a success. However it was not just Chriswell Home Improvement sales team that left me feeling great about decision. When the day came to start the project I was met by the foreman Mat, The Contractor Dante and his assistant Merlin. They told me exactly what they where going to do and how the next couple of days where going to play out. Chriswell dose not use subcontractors so all the people working on my bathroom actually work at Chriswell. This gave me piece of mind knowing that every one was on the same page and held to Chriswell’s high standards. I was especially impressed with Dante and Merlin. Out the gate Dante made sure that I always knew what was going on and encouraged me to ask him anything if I had any questions. Which I did. Having Dante working on my bathroom being a third Generation remodeler and with his decades of experience made me even more confident that I had made the right decision. Dante added some little details which really meant a lot to me and definitely enhanced the overall look of the bathroom. Dante and Merlin where both respectful, worked hard and keep there work site tidy and clean. I could not have asked for two better workmen to do this project. Thank you Dante and Merlin for your hard work. The Bathroom looks great and our Family loves it. All in all I am super happy with the outcome of the bathroom remodel and I look forward to working with Chriswell home improvement again on future projects. If your home needs repairs or you are thinking of doing any projects I highly recommend reaching out to Chriswell Home Improvements for an estimate you won’t be disappointed. Thank You Chriswell Home Improvements!"

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Dunnigan, CA

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
