"We had panel upgrade in our house. Troy was friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all questions we had about the project since it was a older screw in fuse panel. He let me know where the options on new panel was going if there was an issue with City of Seattle lightning. The pricing was fair and he was able to get the job done quickly on our schedule. Kyle and his team showed up on time let me know what was going on with the project and communicated well with all my questions. After they were finished we went in detail the installation and all the information I needed to show the inspector. Pacific Home and Electric was a great contractor to work with and I would highly recommend them for any of your projects."

"Worley Wiring was an amazing company to work with. From the first time I met the owner Kevin for the estimate on a whole house rewire of the 1955-era house wiring all the way through to the final punch list items, both he and his crew were awesome to work with. Their work was top notch and they took the time to do things right. They also worked with me on some custom requests to use my existing smart dimmers and switches, along with the inevitable "oh, right, can you do xyz since you're here?" for a very reasonable upcharge. They completed the work on time and budget, and payment was super easy as well with electronic billing and payment available. They also took the time to clean everything up as they went and at the completion of the work - the house was cleaner when they left then when they started, which is amazing for any major job like this! I will be 100% be hiring Worley Wiring for any electrical job I have in the future!"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Dupont, WA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
