"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Mike was able to arrange a prompt radon test and inspection to occur within days of my call.  He was responsive by email and phone.   <br /> On the day of the visit, he was already present on my arrival.  He did a detailed walk through of the exterior and interior which lasted approximately 3 hours (3200 sq foot house plus basement).  No detail was left untouched and lots of good recommendations were made.   <br /> By the following morning, he provided a detailed report with pictures of the house and outstanding issues.   <br /> I would recommend Mike to all home buyers.  He was recommended by a friend who used him outside of a realtor deal. <br />"

"I google searched radon map view in the Grand Rapids area and called a number of places. This provider had the most thorough checklist of questions about my house, provided the most comprehensive email written quote, has the longest fan warranty (all have lifetime workmanship...but this company is national, so it's more likely to be around) and was the cheapest. Nick was my installer and did a great job and actually recommended and installed a cheaper option than I contracted over the phone. Professional, detailed and provided a lot of good knowledge for me as a homeowner. I'd recommend their service over other more expensive providers."

"The inspection went very well and we are most impressed by Mike Raines! He was there on time (a few minutes early in fact) with all his supplies in hand. He is very cordial, courteous, and professional. I like the fact he explained what he was doing as he was doing it and even made a point to explain he was using his phone to input data of some sort (what it was exactly I forget) and not playing around on his phone (such as texting, etc). <br />   <br /> Mike did a fabulously thorough job and never hesitated to answer any question or concern I had. I was quite impressed he knew who possibly constructed the fireplaces in the home and knew what trademark to look for. I also liked that he had some great ideas on a few items I mentioned remodeling after moving in. <br /> The next day, I promptly received the inspection report (very detailed and included photos might I add) via email. Mike definitely made the inspection process as painless as possible! I would definitely suggest this company to anyone looking for a home inspection."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in East Tawas, MI

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
