Customers say: Super punctual

"Great experience. Professional and on time. Knows what he’s doing, and is very straightforward. The work involved running wires through walls and from the basement panel as well. He did minimal cutting of the walls. Super happy with the work done. Would definitely hire again."

"Chris is very respectful, professional and knowledgeable in his field . He did a fantastic job of upgrading my electrical from 100 to 200 amps he also cleaned up all the hanging wires in my basement. He Installed flood lights in the back yard and ran electrical wires to my new heating and air conditioning unit. I would hire him in a heart beat and would recommend him to my friends as well. "Cotti-Johnson was superb. We had long wanted a permanent generator attached to our house but delayed due to the hassle (buying a generator and then finding all the separate contractors needed to do the electrical and gas work). Cotti-Johnson was one-stop shopping. They did it all, including arranging for the final inspections. They responded to our inquiry right away and within weeks, our generator was fully installed. They also upgraded our electrical panel (long overdue). Kudos to Eric for assessing our needs and E. J. and his co-workers for their efficient and excellent work in installing both the generator and electrical panel."

"K&J updated our panel and outside wiring, which were in desperate need of repair. Kyle estimated the job, provided a written estimate and we agreed on a date (we needed a weekend and they were more than accommodating). Kyle and his partner Shane, showed up on the date, on time, answered any questions my wife or I had, and explained the whole process to us. They took roughly a half day to complete the job. Both areas (inside our basement and outside along the house) were as clean when they finished as they were when they started. I would 5 stars recommend K&J electrical for any work around one home."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in East Weymouth, MA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
