"Doug had me send him pictures of my gate so that he could estimate the cost. However, we were both surprised at home much worse the damage was when he got here. Once he got started, he worked in some really awful heat to fix all of the issues that he encountered. When he was done, I accepted the fact that he was going to charge more given the additional issues he found. What I didn't expect was that I would have to argue with him that he wasn't charging enough! We finally agreed on a price that I still think was too low!! At any rate, I am very pleased with Doug's work and won't hesitate to make use of his skills in the future."

FAQs for appliance (major electric appliance) installation and replacement projects in Columbia, SC

A pro starts by setting the units in place and connecting them to the right plumbing lines, electrical circuits, and, for the dryer, a vent. If the hookups already exist, the job is quick. When they don’t, the installer must add plumbing, outlets, or a vent run, which takes more time and increases the price, especially when the laundry area is located far from existing utilities.

You’ll need the right pros for a tight stacked setup. A natural-gas plumber handles the water lines, drain, and any gas work, while an electrician installs the circuit the dryer needs. If venting or framing changes are required, hire a general contractor to patch the drywall or adjust the framing so that everything meets code and operates safely.

Permanent models need complete plumbing, electrical, and—for dryers—vent hookups. Portable units skip most of that and can run on a standard outlet with a temporary water connection. If your home already has a code-approved hookup, you just connect the new appliances. If not, hire a licensed pro to add the lines and vent so the machines run safely and efficiently.

Relocating a hookup costs between $500 and $5,000, as it may involve installing new outlets, gas lines, vents, and drain pipes. The price increases when the new location is far from existing utilities or requires additional framing and drywall work. Have licensed professionals evaluate your layout, provide a quote for the move, and handle the installation so that every component meets code and works safely.
