"WB Lightning Rods happened to be in our area 5 years ago when we had a massive lightning strike and damage to our home. They installed the rods within days of the roof repair and were patient with our questions. Fast forward 5 years, after our recent roof replacement, I asked if they could come out and inspect the rods placement. They are extremely busy due to the stormy time of year but were good about contacting me with updates on when theyâ  d be back in the area. They contacted me when they were in a nearby town, set up an appt for a few days later, showed up to the appointment promptly and spent a generous amount of time, materials, and effort making sure the rods were straight and secure again. Very happy with the service, their professionalism, and work. I recommended them to our neighbors and would definitely have them install rods on any future houses."

"With JD Construction, you get the highest quality materials, work, level of communication, and commitment to customer service. They are the best. The work crew are pleasant to be around, and Joe was committed to finding the right solution and doing the job well from the start of the design through the last nail getting swept up from the ground. People we don't even know stop to tell us how great the house looks. The work is phenomenal. The people are phenomenal. This is the second time I hired Joe. (He previously repaired and re-floored our front porch.) On that job, his quote was a few thousand dollars higher than the lowest bid, but that was because he insisted on using high-quality materials. This doesn't mean that Joe wants to spend your money, either. He was always looking for a solution (for example to water damage) that would meet my needs and protect my house without costing me a fortune. Hiring him was the single best decision I ever made as a homeowner. For this job, I KNEW I wanted JD Construction and no one else. I feel very fortunate to have found Joe and his team. If you hire them, you will not ever regret it."

"Alec and Suzanne arrived a few minutes before their scheduled appointment time. They introduced themselves and went straight to work. Within 20 minutes, they had diagnosed and repaired the issue. They were both very friendly and professional throughout the entire interaction. I highly recommend them and will hire them again for any other electrical issues that arise."

"<p>Somehow my laptop corrupted the operating system and would not even boot up. Alexander Technical Resources (Spencer) came to my house to try to repair my computer. We decided that my computer needed to go to their repair facility for some serious work. They were able to save all my data, ran thorough diagnostics and repaired my computer. It was such a relief that I did not loose and data.</p> <p>This is the second time I have used them. The first was to set up this very laptop and transfer all the data from my old PC.</p> <p>I would recommend Alexander Technical Resources and will use them for any other computer repairs. </p> <p><br /></p> <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Our experience with Energy Select and the installation of our solar panels was outstanding! They are extremely knowledgeable about the products and what the products can do for your renewable energy desires. Their team worked hand in hand with us during the entire process and even helped us apply for grants with the USDA. We were in contact almost daily. If we had any questions or concerns, they were addressed immediately. Honestly, it felt like we were working together as a team during the entire process which made things seem almost effortless. The installation went smooth and was completed much faster than we anticipated. Our solar panels are now generating more energy than we even use. We highly recommend Energy Select for your solar panel needs!"

"Terry Jenkins and his crew (Ron & Dru) were professional, knowledgeable, organized, and were great at communicating what they were doing and answering/addressing any questions or concerns I had along the way. When an unexpected issue appeared (floor rotted beyond the doors they were replacing), they were more than willing and capable of repairing that too...all in the total time they estimated. Couldn’t be more pleased."

"Price was excellent.  Contractor was professional, courteous and answered all of our questions before work was performed.  House shingle repair was performed using our surplus shingles (from a previous shingle repair).  All of the repair work (shingle,  siding and gutter) were performed in a timely manner.  We would highly recommend this contractor to others."

"My experience with Colonial Electric could not have been better.  Tina Donnelly went above and beyond to schedule both the site visit and the actual job.  The job needed to be coordinated with the delivery and installation of the microwave, and the timing was perfect.  I really felt like Tina wanted to accommodate my particular situation, and she did.  Carl and Matt performed the work, and they were punctual, fast, effective, and professional.  They even helped me with a minor repair to a ceiling fan.  It took them ten minutes but helped me out tremendously.  Finally, the price for everything was very reasonable. <br />"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Ellerslie, MD

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
