"After a painter sanded lead paint in our home, we had testing done and determined that remediation was necessary. Although the situation was incredibly stressful and unpleasant, working with Mike and the rest of the crew from Pacific Environmental helped make things more tolerable. They were very understanding, pleasant, efficient and thorough. It really gave us peace of mind knowing they were meticulously cleaning the house and our possessions. Mike was very patient and answered our many questions. We were extremely concerned about the safety of our two and a half year old son and our unborn child, and he and his crew let us know our concerns were valid and helped us to understand their process. In addition to performing the remediation, Pacific Environmental contracted another company to do follow up tests to make sure the lead levels were down. We were then provided with a report."

"Fantastic. We moved into our new home in November, and had the carpets cleaned. Most of the carpet is white, and had pet stains and odors. They did a great job. Next time we needed them cleaned, for some stupid reason, we used a different company. It didn't go well. Then I saw an ad for a discount with a third company, and again, it didn't go well. We had Summit back out in August, as we were preparing for a large family event. They did a great job, and we won't ever use anyone else. Also, they left a bottle of spot remover for us. Today we had our dogs groomed, and the groomer nicked a foot. We had blood spots all over the white carpet. The Summit spot cleaner removed all the blood spots from our white carpet, in just a few minutes."

"Leo Birdsall , who is licensed in Oregon and Washington, is very thorough and precise. He took me back through all of the inspections that he had made and explained things to me in a way that I could comprehend them. He was extremely polite and willingly answered every question that I had. He was prompt in arriving on time and was willing to spend as much time as needed with me so that I could be confident that I understood everything. I would recommend Leo to anyone needing a home inspection and would readily call upon his services the next time I might have such need. His prices are quite reasonable as well!"

"<p>Mike was easy to work with for the most part. He was very polite and professional and tried to attend to all items I spoke with him about. Quality of the painting was very good but there were paint boo boos that were not cleaned up. Painting was done by hand which I feel made the quality of the work better even though it took a little longer. Towards the end of the project he did try to go off to start other jobs but I told him that he needed to complete my job. He had to work around my three little barking sometimes rude dogs which they did well and cleaned up extensively the work area my pets have access to so they would not eat unsafe items laying around.       They broke a couple of things and did not tell me about it but I feel he tried to correct it by giving me the afore mentioned cash discount. I accidentally gave him a check upon completion of the project that he could not cash. I could tell he was a little upset when he came back holding the check out in his hand on the way to and at my doorstep. But i thnk overall he handled it professionally.     He did ask for 50% down before starting which I found unusual. Most people ask for a deposit or money to cover cost of materials which in this case I mostly paid for.</p>  He did say he was going to install some windows on a day we were going to be gone and he showed up later that day and said he forgot his helper had off that day and he could not do it alone.         I will use him in the future. He was mostly reliable and did not try to cheat me. And we clicked as far as communication went and hecould deal with me when I got a little upset about the type of windows I got. It mostly had to do with how the store named them which I have no idea if Mike was aware of that. He did tell me about a sale that the local store had on the windows/door.      Overall it was a positive experience and I think more people should call him for work. <br />"

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Eugene, OR

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
