"I am the proud home owner of this attic renovation. The attic feels even better in person. Honestly I was going to DIY the attic renovation, but I'm glad that I didn't. The Powers team were incredible. The thing I liked the most about working with them was the transparency from start to finish. Always clear upfront communication about costs and the plans. Also there was a willingness to be a creative problem solver to give us the best. I'm really glad I chose the Powers team. Looking forward to working with them again in the future. Sincerely Ronald Catucci"

"Arranged sales call with Lisa. Mike came and measured then quoted me a very attractive price for ten windows and a sliding glass door. Wilson came and verified the measurements of the windows and sliding glass door. Wilson and another gentleman installed everything in a day and a half. The entire project from start to finish went very smoothly."

"I paid an excessive amount of money to replace the heating system. The sales rep gave us comfort that everything will be done right and the two experienced and fully licensed professionals will be doing the work and that there is a no-excuse warranty, 1 degree guarantee, and 10 years on both the service and hardware. It just so happened that after the install, I told the installer I smelt gas and to check everything. He simply waved it off and said it's fine, give it some time. I told AJ Perri multiple times that there is a gas leak and I asked them to rectify the situation. I called them multiple times to send someone to fix the issue immediately and urgently, but they refused to commit to any resolution and won't send anyone until the gas is turned off for the whole building. I explained that its a condo and that the unit itself in the utility closet has a separate gas shutoff valve. Knowing this, they refused to remediate the gas leak."

Two facing doors at end of hall do not match each other. *Tile work in new bathroom is not fully level and spacing of grout work is inconsistent. Contractor did try to correct but still a problem."

"It was time to renovate our kitchen and redesign our first floor. Moshe Grant worked tirelessly to help us design and plan to give us everything we wanted. Once the planning was completed, the appropriate permits were filed. From demo day going forward, the process was smooth and efficient. All of the sub contractors (architect, plumbing and electrical) were knowledgeable, professional and worked seamlessly together. The end result exceeded our expectations. We can't thank Moshe enough for giving us a beautiful home we can enjoy and be proud of."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Farmingdale, NJ

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
