"Falk Construction was efficient, clean, professional and delivered a result that was better than expected and cost was right on budget! Falk finished about 300 square of our basement with a full Euro style kitchen and a laundry room and matched existing decor. It’s actually been about three years since they finished the project and we’ve enjoyed the result without any issues. These guys are great! I highly recommend!"

"Excellent experience from the bid process to completing my deck. I had a short timeline to get it done and they finished it very quickly. The deck is very sturdy and looks great! Communication with Mike wss great. I loved how they used ground screws instead of concrete footings! I highly recommend Dynasty Decks!"

"Freedom Builders did an outstanding job modifying/ improving the handicapped lift deck in our garage. Meeting and exceeding our expectations. They surveyed the job ahead of time, arrived on time prepared for the job. They corrected any existing deck problems, added the improvements we requested. Quickly did the job, cleaning up not only the work area but the entire garage floor. We would use the again and highly recommend this company to our friends and family."

"Paramount Pros ended up doing a good job on new gutters, painting wood soffit & fascia, and trim around sliding patio doors. However, they no-showed the first two times I had them scheduled without calling, and took more than a month to complete a fairly simple job, probably because they were waiting on a supplier. I would know for sure if they were better communicators. I had to call and ask questions. I also had to have them come back a couple of times to finish jobs correctly. In the pick two dilemma - price, speed, or quality - they're good for price and quality if you are patient and diligent about following up. If you need it done fast and right the first time, find someone else and be prepared to pay a higher price."

"Always kept me informed on when he would arrive and if there would be any delays and why. Reasonable pricing. Brought in experts in their field for certain aspects like electrical. Was easy to work with so had him do another project right away. "

"Super nice crew, showed up on time every day, worked hard and fast, did excellent work at a reasonable price, no loud music blaring, no obscene language from the workers, cleaned up well when finished, overall great experience with a complete tear down and rebuild of our 700sq ft upper and lower deck. Would highly recommend Mike and his crew."

Customers say: Quick response

"There is a reason these guys should be busy. They proposed doing my job well and not just doing it good enough. I opted for having it done better than good enough and I'm very pleased with the result. Well measured and thoughtful confidence and not over-oonfidence is the difference that I'll go with every time. These guys are great. I highly recommend."

"Hagen did an AWESOME job replacing the deck. I requested four quotes, and Hagen was the first to respond by calling me and stopping by that afternoon. He provided a quote that night and was able to fit me in for the upcoming weekend, given that our timeline was very short. He demolished the deck, hauled everything away, leaving the area clean. He then framed the deck and on Day 2, finished it - just as he promised. It looks so good and several neighbors have said the same. Highly recommend Hagen at Rugged General Contracting, LLC. Best price, quality workmanship."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Farmington, UT

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
