"Ricardo called the next day and he met with me as agreed. His bid was the most fair for a Great room, dining room, 3 bedrooms, 11 stairs, foyer and entertainment room. He also agreed to do the job as requested over a two week period. He helped us move heavy furniture which not many would do. He and his crew were very nice. The floors came out Great! Thanks"

"I would give a B+ overall grade, but Angie's doesn't offer that. I want to first level set what I think an A is and why it's a B+. I would give an A if everything went perfectly based on my initial expectation. B is they met most of my expectation, and the ones that weren't met, are probably not end of the world issues. C is they just got the bare-bones job done and can check off the checkbox to say they were done. Anything below that is a failure. First, I would start with the sales process. Although they claim they are a no pressure sales org, I would say that is probably technically correct, although not entirely true. The sales guys were nice enough, but you def got a sales vibe from them where they were trying to make the sale (maybe I'm just naturally sensitive to sales ppl). They were responsive to any follow up question I had on the SOW. They provided estimates on when the work would start and end, which I didn't believe since this is not my first time to the dance. Their head construction guy (Paul) came over a few days later to measure out my place, and this guy was fantastic. You could tell he knew what he was talking about and knew what he was doing. I asked about start date, and he let me know the original one was not gonna happen. I'm glad I asked him; however, in my opinion someone should have notified me about this instead of me having to pull this information out of them. Either way I had already set my own expectation, so even though I was annoyed, it wasn't any deal breaker. Just note that whatever estimate you get will probably not be *exactly* right (things happen, but unfortunately in this modern day and age that is an unfortunately reality with all contractors in all industries). Once they started work, Tylor was my Project Manager, and he was also a great guy to work with. He was able to give me the info that I needed, without boring me with all the nitty gritty details. He had people onsite pretty much every day (this was around the holiday season, so I understood people had vacation). The work spanned demoing my kitchen, installing appliances, floors, baseboards, bathroom shower, tiles, vanity install, medicine cabinet install, plumbing, electrical (the guy was even able to snake an additional line from my circuit box to my kitchen), painting, coordinating with my building super & staff (I live in a coop building so there are things like water shut-offs that need to be managed). Overall, everything was great. The few things I think could have been better (and I think this is really mostly feedback to Paragon): 1) Shower floor does not fully slope down to the drain, there is a local minimum in which water sits in and I have to manually push it to the drain. Really annoying after each shower. 2) The shower door is not as level as it should be. 3) I don't think my flooring should have been installed under my kitchen cabinets. After discussing this point with others after the fact, the floors expand and contract with humidity, so they have no room to "breathe" and may cause stress else where. 4) I specified in the contract that electrical outlets should have been installed to NEC spec (i.e. the ground plug on top). They were not :/. With all that said, I would totally recommend Paragon and would use their services again myself. I waited a full year to write the review so as to give their work some time to settle in, and it has done so just fine."

"Lenny and his crew (Scott, etc) did a phenomenal job. We had a patio put in and our old stairs, deck removed. We wanted it replaced with TREX. We explained to Lenny what we were looking for and he redesigned it perfectly. They did a great job in no time flat. We are extremely pleased and would recommend them in a heartbeat. Thank You Lenny, Scott, and Freeborne"

"Valley first called to confirm the appointment for looking at the existing condition of the old railings. Then they measured the space for the new railings. I was given some pictures that I was to choose from. Valley then made another appointment to remove and replace the old railings
with new ones

Valley showed up on time for the removal and installation of the new railings. The people were courteous, friendly and best of all, they were very professional and extremely knowledgeable of their trade. They removed the old railings and of all of the garbage that went with them, took the trash outside & placed it in their van & I never saw it again. They then proceeded to install the new railings with the required posts and ballesters that were needed.

Once the new railings were installed, they were very sturdy and secure and really looked great. I was very happy with their service and would definitely use them again, if the need was to arise. I'm quite sure that if other people were to use Valley for their railing service, I'm quite sure they will be just as happy as we are; they really know their stuff. Thanks for a really nice high quality job; the railings look like they were installed in a brand new home."

"We received the pads, they are exactly as we ordered, seem to be excellent quality. We would certainly use this company again. The only thing that could be improved is acknowledgement of our order (which we mailed in--almost has to be done this way since one sends a graphic of the table shape with the order). We thought they would probably email us when they received the order and/or let us know about when to expect it to be filled. What did happen was that after a while, we called, and got that confirmation and estimated time over the phone."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Flemington, NJ

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
