"I can’t say enough good things about this appliance technician Darren Greene, After previously having another repair person replace the heating element in my dryer, the problem unfortunately wasn’t truly resolved. This technician came in, assessed the situation thoroughly, and immediately identified what needed to be done the right way. He replaced the heating element with the proper part specifically made for my Samsung dryer, and the difference was clear right away. Not only did he do excellent, high-quality work, but he was also honest, professional, and took the time to explain everything in a way that made sense. It’s rare these days to find someone so reliable and committed to doing the job correctly instead of just quickly. His integrity and attention to detail really stood out, and I truly appreciate the care he put into the repair. We need more people like him in this field. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone in need of appliance repair, good job. Pauline Jones"

"Joe Cole and his assistant were absolutely wonderful. They were efficient, courteous, careful about handling all the items they moved, and even gave very helpful suggestions on placing furniture in a small apartment. Their price was very reasonable and they gave me a flat rate, instead of making me itemize every item and adding extra charges. For example, one mover required building crates for some ceramic pots. If I needed a mover again, I would try to hire nobody else but Joe and I wholeheartedly recommend him."

" The initial call was handled well.  They were friendly and pleasant.  I was given a four hour window for the estimate, and they came within the window.  The estimator was also pleasant and respectful of my home.  They told me they would call when the part was in to schedule the repair.  I had to call them instead.  The repairman was in my house less than five minutes to install the gasket, and when he was done, the door to the dishwasher stuck and would not close.  It is still difficult to close the door completely on the first try.

So, I was checking my bank statement when it occurred to me that I had spent $170 on a repair that took less than 15 minutes, and that two of those repairs would cost more than a new dishwasher.  (I know because I checked prices for new dishwashers before I called for the repair, and again after).

I think the cost of this repair was hugely inflated, and they did not follow up the estimate with the call to schedule the repair as promised.  I think it is the case of a business being penny wise and pound foolish.  They made a great margin on this sale, but lost a customer for anything else that might need repair in my home.   "

"Technician came to the house and analyzed the problem. It was determined that the cost of repair was over the allowable Choice Home Warranty limit and it should be replaced. Choice Home Warranty issued their replacement cost. This cost was unacceptable and I challenged their figure. After some negotiation I was offered an increased settlement amount. I still balked at their offer but I was told to take it or repair my old microwave. I finally accepted their amount, even though it is still well below what it will cost me to replace the unit. I might add that the existing microwave has the convection feature and I want to replace with same features. The cost that I will receive also does not include any removal, disposal or installation costs. At this time I am debating whether I will continue with Choice Home Warranty or consider other options."

FAQs for appliance (smaller size) installation and replacement projects in Fort Lee, VA

Garbage disposals last around 10 years when properly maintained. If your unit is getting close to that age or repair costs are increasing, it might be time to consider a replacement. Regular maintenance and careful use can help maximize your garbage disposal's performance and help it reach its maximum lifespan.

There are several signs to watch for that indicate your garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Replacement may be necessary if it doesn't work even though it's properly connected, the blades are worn and causing delays in operation, a persistent foul odor that won't go away, or leaks coming from the bottom due to a compromised seal. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it might be time to consider getting a new garbage disposal to keep your kitchen running smoothly.

A plumber or handyperson can install your garbage disposal if the electrical connections are already in place. If you need additional electrical work, you'll also need to hire a qualified electrician to handle the rest of the job. Hiring local professionals ensures the installation is safe and up to code.

It’s important to avoid putting certain items down the drain to keep your garbage disposal running smoothly and avoid clogs. Expandable foods like pasta, rice, oatmeal, and bread can swell and cause blockages. Coffee grounds, grease, fats, and oils can accumulate and create clogs. Hard items such as meat bones, nuts, and fruit pits can damage the disposal blades. Eggshells, potato peels, and fibrous vegetables such as celery, pumpkin, corn husks, artichokes, onion skins, and asparagus can wrap around the blades or obstruct the pipes.

Not every sink is suitable for the installation of a garbage disposal. The compatibility of the sink with the disposal depends on the material and structural integrity. While many standard sinks support these units, fireclay sinks are prone to cracking under the added stress and should not be used. Confirm that your sink can securely accommodate the disposal before installation.

Choosing the correct size garbage disposal depends on your household size and how much waste you produce. A 1/3–1/2 horsepower unit should be sufficient for households with one to two people. If your household consists of three to six people, a 1/2–3/4 horsepower unit is recommended. FA3/4–1 horsepower model will be necessary. For larger households of five to eight people
