"We got ~5 different price quotes and VMA Electric was among the least expensive, inspired the most confidence in their expertise, and was extremely responsive. Everyone we interacted with from VMA was polite and professional. We had one issue (I believe with a loose wire causing a short) shortly after completion of the job; they came to fix it right away and we've had no issues since. Would not hesitate to hire again; in fact, I'm already planning some additional electrical work."

"The electricians from Wired were excellent. I needed some immediate work on a wonky outage. It was found, repaired and took more than a little detective work to find. I asked for a quote on various other work, new outlets, moving service location ets. The prices were fair, work scheduled promptly and done as quoted. I would recommend Wired for all your needs. And they have great trucks.......!"

"Peter and his team did a panel upgrade for us when we bought our house in 2021. They completed tidy and well-labeled work on a tight deadline, exactly as planned, on one of the hottest days of the year. I was really impressed at the time with the clear communication about when they'd do different phases of work, what we needed to arrange with the town electric company, etc. More recently, one piece of conduit came unglued and they came by to fix it almost immediately, free of charge. I'm really impressed with this crew's standards."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Steve to upgrade our recalled electrical panel to a 200A. He came out to give a free quote for the work of just replacing the 100A recalled panel. We then decided to go to a 200A, and he was able to provide the quote via email within 24hrs. He was always very responsive and responded to my emails right away. After hiring him, I also added one more labor intensive work of hooking up bathroom vents that we purchased. He was very friendly and conscientious of his work. He made sure all of the wires were labeled correctly and kept at it until he labeled as many as he could. There was only one wire we couldn't identify, which is very good considering we haven't moved in yet and not all areas were up to par. He cleaned up his area extremely well and was very personable. We did look for multiple quotes before hiring. Steve was more expensive by $50, however, we chose him because he took the time to come out to our place and actually look over the property. We felt this was a more personal touch that the cheaper electrician. We would hire him again for any electrical needs. One thing to note if using him, he accepts cash or checks only, no credit cards at this point in time."

"CL Electric responded quickly and was great with communication throughout. Highly professional and did a great job with our 240 V outlet installation. Very fair pricing and a quick turnaround. Will use again if we have electrical work and highly recommend to anyone in the area."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Framingham, MA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
