"They physically got on the very steep roof and inspected the roof before providing estimate. Took photos to illustrate issues with roof. Ultra pro provided a fair estimate. Friendly to work with. Completed the project within 2 days (big roof) and did an excellent job of installing the new asphalt shingles. They also replaced many covers and the vent fan. They also report using 6 nails per shingle to properly secure shingles to roof. My only criticism is they could have used more tarps to make clean up easier and more thorough for themselves. Nevertheless, a weekend DIY warrior who recommends these guys."

"My wife and I were very pleased with Tom from beginning to end of the project. We reached out to Tom thru the Velux Skylight website. Tom responded immediately and came over on a Sunday to look at our damage. He emailed the quote in a few days and we agreed to his terms. The skylight and roofing were installed perfectly and they cleaned up every scrap of debris from inside and outside our house. "To many other roofers in the NYC Greater region- take note, Vandelay has you beat by quite a bit in terms of understanding a client and the particular needs of the job.  I went through a half dozen estimates and site visits; Vandelay and one other contractor where the only ones who were able to produce a timely, considered estimate.  And this was in the down season!
Regarding the job itself.  It presented several unknowns that Bob and his crew were able to work through and develop solutions to in a timely manner.  The demo went smoothly as well as the new installs and final flashing and chalking details.  At this point, the new roof has been through several storms and seems to be doing quite well.  If there is a problem, Bob seems more that capable to address per the contract, which I certainly appreciate.
Its clear he has a lot of experience doing what he knows, and doing it well.  He has good intuition and understanding of a job and the individuals and characters that might be involved, and how to work with them effectively (including myself likely :)
I've been through a couple of roof jobs at this point on various structures, and felt confident with Bob throughout the job; there were no instances that I felt were be minimized or neglected.  And importantly for a Condo building in NYC, Bob's crew made sure that they premise was CLEANER than when they left which is often a big deal with testy unit owners.
Overall, very pleased with both the estimation process, keeping on budget and timeframe and delivering a sound roof in material and craftmanship.  Highly recommended.
