"I was a customer of Evans Heating & Air for ~8 years, but after recent failures won't continue with their service. My home was built new in 2012, and was under warranty for HVAC services the first few years with the contractor used by the home builder. I began working w/Evans Heating & Air in 2015. From 2015-2022, Evans did semi-annual checks on my heat pump + air handler per my annual service contracts with them, except for 2019. Until 2022 Evans never noted any system problems, and my total service plan cost before 2022 was ~$1,100. In March 2022 Evans performed my spring service and indicated no system problems. In August 2022 I scheduled a service call when my heat pump did not properly cool my home. The technician said my heat pump was low on refrigerant, and charged me accordingly (~$300). Of note, Evans did not diagnose any other system issues in August 2022. In November 2022 Evans Heating and Air performed my fall service (per my paid contract), and again indicated no system problems. Yet, in December 2022 I paid an electric utility bill of $333, a level rarely seen in >10 years at this home. I spoke with Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (utility provider), who noted my electric usage in December 2022 was ~30% higher than December 2021, yet the December 2022 temperatures were not 30% colder. REC said something was likely wrong with my HVAC system, so I scheduled yet another emergency call with Evans Heating and Air on 12/27/2022. On 12/27/2022 Evans again said there were no system problems, and it took a subsequent call from REC to Evans to have a more senior technician come to my home. On 01/06/2023 Evans Heating and Air finally diagnosed a coil leak in my air handler, and quoted a repair cost of ~$3,500 (service call on 01/06/2023 cost me $149). So, Evans came to my home on 03/12, 08/05, 11/11, and 12/27 in 2022, and on these 4 occasions failed to diagnose the real problem. And, had Evans been cleaning the coils on my air handler via semi-annual checks since 2015, this failure could have been averted before winter 2022. I have neighbors with homes and HVAC systems older than mine, who have never had HVAC problems. Yet, I paid for annual maintenance with Evans Heating & Air since 2015, and likely only got flashlight checks from them. And, my heating bill for January 2023 was $503.43. I have since had a new HVAC system installed by another HVAC company, and I will work with them going forward. Evans HVAC failed to do their due diligence. I will not recommend them to anyone!"

For over 35 years, American Home Contractors has provided exterior household services and upgrades across Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. American Home takes great pride in ensuring customer satisfaction and commits to delivering the highest quality of work when renovating any home.

"American Home Contractors and Hugo in particular were great to work with. We had multiple jobs done which required several trips and Hugo kept us informed and worked around several weather delays. He relocated and installed a new attic fan, hooked up the bathroom fan to a new roof vent, insulated a pipe in the attic, installed apron flashing on four windows, painted the flue vent, reconnected some lose siding and replaced three pieces of rotted trim and painted it. The work appears to be top notch and we appreciate the hard work and long hours Hugo put in! I would definitely recommend this company and most certainly Hugo to everyone. We also had American Home Contractors replace our gutters and install gutter guards. They did an excellent job with that as well."

At DUCTZ of NOVA we take pride in giving you the best air duct, dryer vent and carpet cleaning services available. Cleaning your ducts and carpets in your home and/or business the right way, the first time is our top priority. At DUCTZ we make sure that you are getting the services you not only expect but you deserve. Quality customer services is only one of our many professional goals, we strictly adhere to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association Standards as well as the Environmental Protection Agency standards and EPA checklist. Your air ducts can become a major source of indoor air pollution. Every time you run your heating and cooling system, airborne contaminants build up inside the ductwork, creating a breeding ground for mold, bacteria, fungi, and other microbes. These contaminants can also significantly decrease the efficiency of your heating or cooling system. Air duct cleaning is a proactive solution to these problems. It can enhance the indoor quality of your home or business, eliminate build-up dirt and contaminants, and extend the life of your heating and cooling systems. Commercial or residential dryer vents are cleaned periodically to reduce the risk of fire. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that in 1998, clothes dryers were associated with 15,600 fires, resulting in 20 deaths and 370 injuries. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust ductwork. Lint can block the flow of air, cause excessive heat build-up, and result in a fire in some dryers. Carpet cleaning can improve the appearance of your home and extend the life of your carpet, but perhaps the most valuable benefit from the process is improving you and your family’s health. According to the American Lung Association, if members of your household suffer from conditions that can affect their breathing, such as snoring or asthma, it’s especially crucial that you vacuum your carpets at least three times a week. Beyond vacuuming regularly, you may also benefit from having your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year. If you’re not fully convinced of the benefits of professional carpet cleaning, consider the following top three ways the process leads to a healthier home; Carpet cleaning eliminates trapped pollutants, carpet cleaning can clear out dust mite infestations, and carpet cleaning can help prevent mold growth. FAQs for chimney cap installation and replacement projects in Fredericksburg, VA

A properly constructed chimney crown using quality materials can last 50 to 70 years with appropriate maintenance. Poorly constructed crowns might need replacement in 20 years or less. Weather exposure, freeze-thaw cycles, and construction quality all affect longevity. Regular inspections and prompt repairs of minor issues can significantly extend your chimney crown's useful life and prevent more costly repairs down the road.

Homeowners' insurance covers sudden, accidental damage to chimney crowns from events like fallen trees or storm damage. However, gradual deterioration from age or lack of maintenance falls outside coverage parameters. Review your specific policy details, as coverage varies between insurers. Document any storm-related damage with photos and maintain records of regular chimney maintenance to support potential claims for weather-related damage.

The chimney crown forms the concrete or masonry covering across the entire top surface of your chimney, sloping away from the flue to direct water away. A chimney cap, by contrast, is a smaller component that fits directly over the flue opening to prevent animal entry and block sparks. While the cap protects just the flue opening, the crown safeguards the entire chimney structure from water penetration.

Professional chimney inspections should occur annually to evaluate crown condition along with other chimney components. Homeowners in regions with severe weather patterns or frequent freeze-thaw cycles might benefit from semi-annual inspections. A thorough inspection examines the crown for cracks, spalling, deteriorating mortar joints, and proper water drainage. Early detection of minor issues prevents them from developing into major structural problems.

A deteriorating chimney crown frequently leads to interior moisture problems. When water penetrates crown cracks, it can travel through the chimney structure into adjacent walls and ceilings. This moisture migration often results in stained drywall, peeling paint, and potential mold growth. Early intervention through crown repair or sealing prevents these secondary damages and protects your home's interior from water-related deterioration.
