"They replaced the drains for our sump pump and down spouts. After 20+ years they had become clogged. Stay Dry assessed the situation and replaced the drains with PVC. Stay Dry was GREAT to work with and the price was very reasonable. Additionally the crew doing the project was amazing! I highly recommend the!!!"

"Called for appointment and was able to get within 2 weeks. Austin called in advance to say he was on way. He clearly explained what he was checking and what would occur. He replaced sump pump and check valve, resealed radon cover, and then checked outside to see where sump was draining to. Finally, he tested street drainage with water from the hose. I was very happy with Amanda Plumbing and would use them again, and was happy with Austin's work. I may use in the spring to downspout and drain cleaning. My usual plumber would have only replaced the sump, but would not do drain checking. Amanda is more of a full service plumber, since they handle plumbing, drains, and sewers"

"I first met with Steve the salesman from liberty. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. My turn-of-the-century home has had water in the basement for 20+ years. He assured me that the system he was going to install, would take care of my issues forever! And I am overjoyed to say that I have not had a bit of moisture in that basement since they finished! I would, without a doubt, hire them to do other projects , for any of my friends or family! They are second to NONE!!!! Steve, even offered to upgrade my primary pump with a battery back up pump, I felt that the sense of security was well worth the extra money! Plus it saves me money on my insurance premium!"

"This was a great experience. They taught me along the way with things I should know about my system. They also took the time to install a temporary sump pump to ensure the rain water and ground water  that was coming wouldn't back up in my home."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Galena, OH

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
