"Milestone did a very good job at repointing (removing the old, crumbling mortar and replacing it with fresh, new waterproof mortar). Mik is very professional and is fair in his pricing. Communication with him was never an issue. His crew are very nice guys who did an excellent job. The finished job did not look like someone fat-fingered the mortar into place. "Foundation Experts determined the problem was much greater than current homeowner thought. They brought in a structural engineer to thoroughly examine the foundation and wrote up a detailed report, including extensive photographs, of the problem. They gave a written proposal for potential work to repair the problem according to township code. All of their work (three separate visits plus three detailed reports) was done in an astonishingly compressed time period, which enabled us to meet our required deadline to attempt to continue with purchase of the house, depending on current homeowners willingness to either repair the issues to our satisfaction or give us a purchase credit of the amount proposed by Foundation Experts. "It went really well. They came in immediately and sealed off the basement from the rest of the house (There's no door to the basement)). They also set up very large and powerful hepa-air-cleaning units which they kept running through the whole job and in fact until the industrial hygienist returned for post-testing after the job was completed. The manager Mike assured me that the job would be done with the utmost effort and care and that's exactly what happened. The main workers, Marcello and Israel were terrific, meticulous, hard-working, reliable, responsive to any concerns I raised. I really couldn't have asked for any more. "When we moved into this old Victorian we didn't realize we would have a problem with water showing up in our basement every time we had a big rain.
I called A-1 and another company to consult on the problem.  They, of course, were very familiar with this problem and recommended a french drain system into a sump with appropriate pumps to send the water outside.  The salesman (Bob) did a great job of explaining what they would be doing, the materials, and their knowledge of working on old houses.
Because of the vintage of the house (1901) it's a little tricky installing the french drain; normally you put the drain right at the base of the foundation wall; because the foundation in old houses are relatively fragile, you need to put the drain about a foot away from the wall and add a plastic liner to ensure water coming in at the base of the wall is channeled into the drain system.
I liked both company's proposals but decided to go with A-1.
Their crew (maybe 8-9 guys) showed up right on schedule to start 4-day job.  Initially, the foreman thought it might take 5 days but they were able to finish in 4.  I must tell you this was a huge, messy job BUT they did a great job of minimizing the impact on our house.  They helped us consolidate all of our stuff in the center of the basement, built a plastic barrier to protect it, then went to work.
They outlined the location of the drain line and the sump, then began jack-hammering which lasted two days (no napping in our house during that time).  They broke up the basement floor to dig the trench; that left a huge amount of debris to haul out, one 5-gallon bucket at a time.  They lined the trench with the appropriate fabric, then drain rock, then installed the drain pipe. They dug the sump and installed the 2 sump pumps and connected the whole interior system. They drilled through the wall to get the pump output line outside and trenched the line about 40 feet into the yard where they dug a dry well.
Then the finish work: mixing concrete and covering over the drain pipe in the basement. When they finished it was almost as though they hadn't been there. The basement looked as good as before; the yard (and our new landscaping) was undisturbed.
What I especially liked was the things they did to go over and above--things I wouldn't have thought to ask about: they removed a couple of brick columns along the wall that were leftover from now removed waste lines; they added two access drain lines tied into the main system for things like a dehumidifier.
I am very satisfied with all of their work--I definitely got my money's worth. So far, we have a dry basement.

"Mr. John O. arrived on time and alerted me prior to his coming by phone. John went around the basement and inspected the walls and windows for moisture penetration, and signs of deterioration. He listened to my concerns and wrote a report and recommended an indoor french drain installation based on his professional judgment of the situation.
I received the report with a schematic of my basement and his assessment as a pdf on email. He included a detailed estimate for the work proposed.
I feel that I got a report and an hour of evaluation for $49 and it is fair.
