Shea Roofing Company is a family tradition of excellence since 1946. Bill Shea is following a family tradition of delivering the highest quality roofing services since the end of World War 2. Shea Roofing Company specializes in tiles, slate roofing, shingles, rubber roofing, copper roofing, and gutters and downspouts for residential and commercial clients. Other services they provide are window replacement, vinyl siding and more.

"We recently hired Shea Roofing to install a new roof on our house and garage, including the removal of two chimneys. On day one, company owner Bill Shea surveyed the project and gave us a full explanation of what needed to be done. He left us with a wide variety of shingle samples to help us with the decision process. After providing what we considered was a reasonable quote, the work began shortly thereafter. Everything moved along quickly and the work was well executed on every level. His hard-working team of three roofers worked together efficiently and in a professional manner. We greatly appreciated that they took the extra time needed to finish the job they set out to do each day, after which they fully cleaned the area and organized their equipment so it was out of our way. The new roof was then tested the following week by torrential downpours and thanks to their fine workmanship our previous roof leaking issues were solved! We highly recommend Shea Roofing for all of your roofing needs!"

Since 2000, FRS Roofing + Gutters has served homes and businesses across the greater Massachusetts area specializing in roof and gutter repair and installation. We are locally owned and fully insured, covered by workers compensation and general liability. We provide next-day estimating and we call our customers the day before we meet and explain all the steps being performed, as well as answer any questions the homeowner may have. No job is too big or too small. We offer guarantees on workmanship, our job sites are clean, and we make sure that every one of our customers is fully satisfied before we leave the site.

"FRS Roofing won the bid to fix the main slate roof and the 4 rubber porch roofs on my home. Chris from FRS provided the winning estimate after taking a meticulous inspection of the roofs which included identifying the number of slates needed to restore the main roof. He also explained why the rubber roofs installed by a local contractor 20 years ago had prematurely failed. The FRS work crews assigned to our project were all skilled and knowledgeable of their craft. Every crew member possessed a good demeanor and showed respect for our property. Once started, the job was completed without delay as can sometimes occur when a crew is pulled to work on another project. An unforeseen delay did occur when the chimney was being re-flashed. During the bidding process, all visible sides of the chimney appeared to be in fair shape. Once the crew could see the far side of the chimney, they discovered it was completely devoid of mortar. I was shown a photo of this miracle house of cards and immediately authorized a complete rebuild of the chimney which FRS performed at a reasonable additional cost. There were no surprises with the rubber roofs. The original fiber board underlayment which was disintegrating from water damage was replaced with a new material that is impervious to water. Also, the proper rubber was used on the edge strip to prevent it from peeling off as had happened on the old rubber roof. Overall, I am more than satisfied with the job and would not hesitate to use FRS roofing again for any property new or old!"

Wood shake or composite roofing installations and replacements FAQs

Cedar shakes and wood shingles might seem similar, but they have some important differences. Cedar shakes are hand-split, giving them a unique, textured appearance that adds rustic charm to your roof. They're great for homeowners who want a distinctive look. Wood shingles, conversely, are machine-made, providing a smooth, uniform appearance for a more modern look. Shakes tend to be more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved but offer exceptional beauty and resilience.

A well-maintained cedar shake roof can last up to 60 years. However, factors like severe weather and improper ventilation can reduce its lifespan. You should consider replacing your roof if you notice persistent leaks, visible water damage, curling or splitting shakes, moss growth, rot, or missing shakes. Regular inspections can help you determine when it's time for a replacement.

When hiring a roofing contractor for your cedar shake roof, asking the right questions is important. Make sure they are fully certified and have extensive experience with cedar installations. Verify that their team is licensed, bonded, and insured. Ask for details about the materials they use, such as the type of underlayment and fasteners, and how they ensure proper ventilation. Getting multiple written estimates can help you compare options and choose a contractor who offers quality workmanship at a fair price.
