"I hired East Coast concrete to repair a concrete slab in my backyard as well as cracks around the entire perimeter of my exterior walls. These guys did a superb job! They completely waterproofed my exterior walls and repainted everything. Everything looks brand new and I'm completely confident that it will hold up well with this crazy Maryland weather. I would definitely recommend them to any of my neighbors or anyone who needs concrete work."

"They hauled away trash, but I was told by the lady that came they did not take construction debris. The deal specifically states: "Removal of just about anything around your home, office, retail space, rental unit, warehouse, storage unit or job-site including old furniture, office equipment, boxes, construction debris, yard waste, appliances and more." They would not remove sheet rock or construction debris in contractor bags. Because I had plenty of junk to be removed they did fill up their truck. This, however, is false advertising.

"Mark's Lawn and Landscaping did a beautiful job removing and old settled concrete walkway from the front of our house and installed a beautiful new paver walkway. They were prompt, showed up on the appointment date on schedule, and completed the job ahead of their original estimate. We are extremely happy with the new walkway and work that Mark and his crew performed, at a very reasonable price. We'll definitely call on Mark's again when it comes time to re-do our back patio."

"Without a doubt, John Harris must be among the most
honorable men in any profession but particularly plumbing.
My mother-in-law was to visit us from the state of Oregon
and she was set to arrive on Wednesday.   Both my first and second
floor bathtubs were draining poorly with glacier slow drainage speed.  If
you took a shower and ran the water for 5 minutes, you were ankle deep in water
before you got out.  I let this problem fester and on the day my wife?s
mother was to arrive, I decided (or was prompted) to fix the problem.  I
got to work by removing the tub strainer at the bottom of the tub and used my
trusted small 23 feet Rigid Electric Snake, which I placed down the drain
pipe and turned on the motor.
This had always worked in the past ? except this time
(hello Murphy?s Law).  While the snake pulled out a clump of hair, it
could not get past the main obstruction.  It felt like a solid piece of
concrete had hardened in the drainage pipe. This problem arose in the second
bathtub as well.   My wife left for the airport and I knew I was in
trouble.   I quickly found John Harris, owner of Plumb Out
Plumbing, on Angie's List and explained the problem.
While he was booked solid, he said he had a small window in which he could look
at the problem.  I was already working on my fall back story for my wife
wife and mother in law when John arrived.
He quickly inspected both tub drains by running water and
observing the flow rate and left for his truck.  I followed him and
offered to help him haul the large heavy electric snake up the stairs, which
would plow through any obstruction instantly ? like an Abrams Tank.  We
both walked to his truck where a monster of an electric snake awaited.  To
my chagrin, John said that a snake would not be necessary and instead reached
for a plunger ? that?s right a stick with a rubber suction cup at the
end.  I protested and insisted he use his high-tech snake.  For as an
America male, I want the horse power, the bells and whistles ? i.e. the good
stuff ? not some turn of the century device used by my great grandmother ?
assuming she had indoor plumbing ? which I doubt.  So I protested again.
Well Mr. Harris' response was ?if the plunger works my
visit is free.?  Rather than fight with the man who would ultimately be my
salvation with his ?mighty horse powered amped driven electric snake in the
truck? I said OK for he would soon realize the folly of his ways and need my
help to haul the heavy snake up the stairs.
We went inside and he removed the overflow grid which is
found on the top of the bathtub, by unscrewing it and placed a small wet towel
to create a tight seal on the overflow hole.  He then ran hot water (I
mean hot) until the bathtub had about a foot of water in it.  He then used
the plunger to push air toward the obstruction.  He called it
"creating approximately 300 pounds of pressure per square inch? ?  I
call it the Heimlich maneuver ? on a bathtub.  It actually worked, what I
saw next was the whirlpools or tornado funnel going down.

He did the same thing on the first floor and took the
time to explain that if I did this periodically on the drain, including
the kitchen,  it would  keep my drainage problems at bay.  This
whole process took less than 10 minutes when he announced he had to go.
I reached for my wallet and chased him out the door, I
finally manage to get between him and his truck and thrust my wallet at
him.  He repeated that the work was free and refused my money.  In
preparing this vignette, I debated whether I should mention that I did not pay
him for there are those who will then believe that the man works for free or is
the Johnny Apple Seed of plumbing, he
is not.  He is simply a man possessed of integrity who spent most of the
10 minutes trying to explain to me (again trying to explain to me) that we
should try this low-tech solution before resorting to the game
changer.   The next time I have a real plumbing problem, I will call
John Harris and not question his advice (well maybe I won?t question) for he is
truly ? a decent and honorable man.

"With the wet spring we had, I was not promised a start date and I could see why. However, I was surprised to come home one night and discover they had been hard at work. They started work on the drainage system first and brought out a mini-digger to dig out the various channels they would need for the pipe. They installed a 16 x 16 catch basin (drain) by the side of the drive to catch water in heavy storms. The hooked up the catch basin, a downspout pipe from the front of the house that passes under the driveway, the sump pump and two other downspouts. All these black plastic pipes was connected to PVC pipes and hooked together into a central line that drains into a a 50 gallon tank in the garden. This tank is buried in the garden and has numerous holes in it to allow seepage and it is surrounded by rock to make it easy for water to leach into the surrounding area. The main line has a backflow preventer. The crew left the tank and backflow valve uncovered so we could inspect the set up and familiarize ourselves with what it looked like, where it was located, etc. before covering. The set-up was tested throughout the process to make sure the grade was right. We have not had a hard rain since installation. I would say their forte was unequivocably the drainage system and the stonework. The sidewalk, stairs and retaining wall were made of Versa Lok and/or Techo materials, and the nice curve in the sidewalk and construction of the stairs are better than I expected. I believe the stairs will remain long after the house is gone! The retaining wall is a good height for sitting, and they took extra measures to insure that dirt would not leach through the retaining wall. They made a suggestion towards the end of the project to install additional curbstone along a small bed leading up to the deck, and it was a good addition. They told us it would be an additional charge when we agreed, and the additional $250 charge was reasonable in our opinion. My major grievance is that I was not prepared for the general destruction of existing plant material in the areas where they worked. The deck was surrounded by various perennials, and I imagined they would be dug up and set them aside for re-planting when the project was finished. This was not in the quote. They did dig up some of the best specimens, but my husband and I replanted them elsewhere because we thought they would dry out or get destroyed before being replanted. This was not the case, as they were quick to replant within 2 days - but at this point I didn't know what to expect. I did have edging and mulching the area in the quote, and the plant materials were just plunked back into the general area and covered with mulch. Maybe they would have survived, but once again, I feel their forte is working with the pavers and stones and the drainage system, and not really with plants. I would use them again, and have actually asked for another sidewalk quote."

"I recommend using Heil Plumbing. The plumber, Dave L., arrived promptly, he was professional, and responsive to all my questions. He quickly identified the problem-the toilet needs to be reseated. Unfortunately for me, Dave was unable to complete this project due to circumstances beyond his control. He removed toilet and then removed a rubber spacer that was there off and found a plastic spacer flange that wasn't fastened down and another rubber gasket. He also discovered there are three layers of tile flooring and the flange is way to low. As a result, he could not complete the job. Dave recommended that I replace flooring or have a carpenter raise wood from underneath so the toilet would have support on a new flange. He further recommended replacing shutoff valve that doesn't work for the toilet. Dave spent one hour in my home at most. The investigation and labor without fixing problem cost me $195. Fortunately, I had a vendor coupon from Angie's List which took off $15. So I ultimately paid $180. I'm not sure if that price is reasonable for the area and what actually happened during the visit since the problem didn't get fixed. I'll likely shop this job around to a few more plumbers, but I will probably go with Heil Plumbing again if I can get some credit on the price for the repair based on the investigation and labor that was performed."

"Dave did a great job. He removed a large, thick concrete porch that was difficult to get to. He also installed a concrete sidewalk, and removed some large bushes. He did the work quickly and at a fair price. I would definitely hire him again."
