"John was great, came to inspect our home in Rochester and was professional and had every piece of equipment you could need to give us a detailed look into our house. Even when the seller made a mistake on the sewer and water system types John helped us test both and went above and beyond. Cannot recommend enough if you want a the best and safest bet for an inspection!"

"Although my relationship with ARM started a bit rocky, in the end I was very happy with the service provided. After a ARM technician replaced a fan, the noise level in the surrounding rooms increased to a point where I wondered if I could sell the house. I got the impression from the technician who installed the fan and was told by another company's technician there probably wasn't anything I could do. But, Mike G, from ARM, was able to lower the noise to a tolerable level by reducing the vibration from the attached pipe by making small adjustments including re-positioning the fan, removing old clamps and adding foam. He patiently answered all my questions and explained what he was doing throughout the diagnostic. Although the noise problem was resolved, the radon level was still 10.8 pCi/L so ARM returned (with the original technician and Keith to add a second suction point. . I was very happy with their work. The pipes were placed in a way that is an unobtrusive as possible, are securely fastened and as I learned, have the right pitch. Before the installation, Keith explained what they did to determine where they thought the suction point should be, and after must have been a long day for them, made me feel it was important that all my questions were answered. My radon level is now .6 pCi/L! My only complaint is that it takes a long time to get appointments and for two of the visits they were a few hours late.. The cost of service is for the 3 visits which were 11/9/18, 12/26/18, and 1/30/19 and includes the cost of the fan."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"New England Radon showed up on the date and time we agreed to.  I was unable to be onsite while the work was being performed and instructed them to call me with any questions.  They only contacted me once to let me know the location they were planning on installing the system.  I advised them there was already had a pipe within the foundation and after finding it they decided to use it (messy basement, my fault).  Once the work was completed (3-4 hours) they left an informational packet with all warranty information and a radon testing kit.  Work was performed very well and we have no complaints.  Will definitely use again! <br />"

"Overall it was a long day since it was pouring which made it muddy and messy but that did NOT stop him. He went under the home and on top of the home. Checked everything outside as well as inside. He was very quick to respond to my call and even quicker to set up a date that worked for all concerned. He even had a Thermal Imaging Machine to test with. Very impressive. Bottom line, he saved us a fortune because the home was in such bad shape which you would never know judging by how it looked. <br /> <br />  When I got the final written report from him it was also very thorough. I hadn't realized he'd taken so many pictures but there they were all to back up his info. I will definitely hire him again. He went above and beyond to help us and we can't thank him enough. <br /> <br /> Thank YOU Bob McWhirter, for a job well done."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Gilmanton, NH

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
