"Reviewed Angies List and Barr Plumbing was at the top: AL certified and good reviews. Called and spoke with them and was told it was too big of a job and would take too long. Asked for any recommendations and they said to check on line reviews. If a small 2 bedroom cabin with straight line runs is too much for them, perhaps their ads about what all they do needs to change as well as AL's certification process."

"JES Foundation contracts all their electrical work out to Root Electric. In the process of installing my new sump pump, back-up sump pump, and sump pump alarm system, it was determined that a new dedicated outlet could not be created due to my existing electrical panel being too small. Thus, I needed to get an electrical panel upgrade. Through JES Foundation, a date and time was arranged to have my new electrical panel upgrade installed. The lead Root electrician Andrew, and his assistant Andy, dd a terrific job installing the new upgraded electric panel. They were both very friendly, efficient, and professional. Andrew afterwards walked me through everything that was done, and answered any questions that I had. They also cleaned up afterwards very well. I highly recommend Root Electric and JES Foundation to anyone who needs their expertise."

"Called them and discussed problem. They quoted price and scheduled appointment. Day of appointment they came, they installed new water softener, they left. The only item(s) left behind was new water softener, not a bit of trash can be found. The installers appeared knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Have used this company previously."

"Hired to take a look at our sump pump battery that wouldn't stop beeping at us no matter what we did. They fixed it, and showed us why we should really replace our pump with something higher quality and less shoddy. We decided to upgrade and they installed within 2-3 days of that decision. Great work!"

"They called within minutes of my request here, and were able to come out the following morning. The guys cleared the drain and fixed two toilets in less that 2 hours. Very pleasant, professional and efficient. The cost was not cheap, but not expensive either. I felt it was fair. ( With other plumbers I have felt over-charged.) Definitely recommended!"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Glengary, WV

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
