"We decided to do a complete remodel of our master bathroom and contracted with Virginia Bath Company (Rich Sowinski) for the job. We couldn’t be more pleased with the way things worked out. We can summarize our experience in “4 C’s.” Communication: Rich was unfailingly responsive. Email and text messages were his primary media, which suited us well (avoiding phone tag). The terms of the contract were precise and explicit. Once the job began, Rich started each day by telling us what he would be doing. We never felt in the dark about any aspect of the work. Courtesy: Given the expected disruption and inconvenience of this kind of project, the personalities of the people doing the work can make things easier or more difficult. Rich and all of his associates were unfailingly polite and pleasant. This seriously lessened the disruption in our lives while the work was being done. In fact, we began to look forward to Rich’s appearance each morning to brief us on the day’s work in his extremely cheerful and positive manner. Coordination: Since this was a complete remodel, the job involved Rich and his assistant, a cabinet maker for the new vanity, a plumber, an electrician, a painter, the people who built and installed the glass door for the shower, and the people who installed the new countertop. Every single one of these did their appointed job on the exact date promised by Rich; there was not a single exception. This speaks volumes about the relationship Rich has with his subcontractors. Craftsmanship: The new bathroom looks great. We do not have a single complaint with the quality of the workmanship (and we have looked over the final result very carefully). Overall, we recommend Virginia Bath Company without reservation. They provided, by far, the best experience we have had with serious work on our house."

"Is there a 6-star rating? This team was professional, courteous, and they seemed to genuinely enjoy the work that they were doing. They cleaned up after themselves and called out a few things that we weren't aware of in the process, and checked on a few concerns that we had. The pricing was good, and they even gave us a few extra quotes for some future projects. We were having troubles finding someone to look at our ductwork having called other companies in the area and being told various things (another company tried to give us a quote without seeing the space or what needed to be done). Meanwhile, my parent's house was also, having issues with there duct work and found these gentleman first. They came out to my parent's house after being given a quote from another company for several thousand more and provided a much more reasonable quote and they completed the work needed there a few days later. My mom directed them to us, and they came the same day to look at our ductwork as well. After providing us a quote they started the next Monday, replacing our ductwork and installing new insulation in our attic. It really didn't matter if they were covered in dirt, mud or whatever else is under a house, or profusely pouring sweat after working several hours in our attic, these guys seemed to enjoy there work a great deal. So, will we hire these guys again, you bet your sweet canned corn we will. Would we recommend them to others, does your grandmother carry candy in her purse(the answer is yes, yes and oh hello yes)!"

"VERY WELL, Ray is a great guy and a very smart man. He likes company when he works and he'll train you to do the work yourself if you're interested. Ray is the only plumber I would hire at this point. One caveat, Ray is closing in on retirement and doesn't like to go under houses. If you work with him he will get the work done and done well. Ray also took care of all the communication with Moen for the warranty replacement of the effected parts. He is great!"

"Called early in the morning. Valerie was very polite and was able to confirm that I had indeed purchased my system from them. Amy found an available time window for me in the afternoon and was very responsive when I called back within that window for confirmation. James was at my home as promised and was very efficient in pinpointing the problem and making the repair. Before billing he also confirmed that my parts warranty had run out as I expected. I could not ask for better service. My total bill was less than $300 and everyone was courteous and professional. Thank you."

"Have worked w/Bob Stahl since 2012 (Stahl Cabinets is now Neptune Kitchen and Bath), and was so pleased with his work that we've not used anyone else since. After some cosmetic improvements to our kitchen, powder room, and (ex) wet bar area in 2012, we decided in 2017 to upgrade our master bath, and the result was beyond our expectations (7 pix-) - could not be more pleased! We then, earlier this year/2019, decided to upgrade the guest bathroom (4 pix); convert the old brick/ceramic tile, non-working fireplace (1 pix; gas insert includes backlit/colored pebbles); bar area (1 pix, added wine racks); powder room vanity (1 pix); as well as change the kitchen cabinetry color (from polyurethane golden oak to white/peripheral cabinets, and mint green/island) (2 pix) ... again, outstanding results! Finally, we installed built-in shelving in the FROG (office), with a library ladder - quite pleased! Constant communication on both schedule and cost (on target, no surprises) - will not work with anyone else!. We recommend Neptune unconditionally!"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Gloucester Point, VA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
