"Howard is very professional and knowledgeable. I chose Howard through the Georgia Power home energy audit program. I wanted the audit performed by someone who was independent of any future services. The audit took approximately 4 hours. Howard conducted a very thorough examination of the house and attic including a blower door test to check total home air leakage. His follow-up report was very thorough and easy to understand. There is a $150 rebate from Georgia Power for conducting the audit which I have received."

"Gary's company was prompt in setting up the appointment and was very responsive to emails. The inspector (Gary) showed up on time in the morning. As far as the quality of services, his report was, for the most part, fairly detailed. However, there are definitely areas that he either overlooked, or the report simply was not accurate. For example, he did not do any inspection of our built-in refrigerator/freezer. When I emailed his company asking why that was missing, their response was that they do not perform inspections of movable appliances. The refrigerator in the house, however, is not movable. It is built in, so it should have been something that should have been checked. Gary's response seems to acknowledge that he himself did not test it (and does not even disagree that he should have tested it, since it is not a "movable" appliance in his own words). As a matter of fact, his report indicated that he checked other built in appliances, such as the built-in oven and microwave.

As far as the microwave goes, I have severe questions whether this was even examined. The seller's disclosure form (which I received prior to the inspection) indicated that the microwave was not working. Gary's report, however, stated that "[t]he built-in microwave is functional." After I moved in, the microwave would not power on. Upon unscrewing the frame surrounding the microwave, I noticed that the microwave was not even plugged in. Simply put, there is no way the microwave could have been tested as "functional." Gary's comments that he observed the seller putting and heating a cup of tea/coffee in the microwave are highly suspect. As I mentioned, the microwave was not even plugged in (and could not have been plugged in without removing four screws holding a trim plate in place). I wonder if Gary was mistaken for observing the seller use a countertop microwave, as opposed to the built-in one which was not plugged in.

It was things like this that cast doubt on the overall quality of the report. I'm sure others' opinions may differ from my own, but I would not be able to recommend AccuSpect to anyone else based on my experience.

Gary seems to think that the mere length (18 page summary) alone warrants a better than a C rating. I think this is a point on which we obviously disagree. What is important to me is quality, not quantity. I stand firmly by my C rating."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Snellville, GA

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
