"Rocky Ridge did a fantastic job at clearing some land for us. He got back to us very promptly, met us at the site, and started to work all within about a week or so of us originally contacting him. He took a totally undeveloped area that was basically a forest on a hill and made a nice flat area for us to build on. His attention to detail was amazing. He used the stones he found in the area to build a retaining wall to help create the flat space and even left us an adorable stone bench. I would highly recommend Rocky Ridge for any landscaping, clearing, or excavating work you need done."

"I honestly do not even know where to begin with this review so let me start by saying you will not go wrong with hiring these professionals. I purchased a home that unknowingly had a ton of water issues such as, seeping water under the foundation that was coming up into my basement, a leaking hatchway, etc. and they took care of every issue. They installed a drain system and a catch grate under the hatchway. I was sent a two-man crew as promised the next day after signing a contract. Josh who communicated with me the most and another man I sadly canâ t remember his name, but both were awesome from beginning to end they showed up, and from day one looked forward to them arriving every morning after. They explained as they worked, keeping me informed of every aspect of the job. They got right to business carefully moving and covering every item I had stored in the basement, breaking up the floor, installing the drain, pouring the foundation, and clean up was awesome. Upon completion, they provided me with specific instructions to allow it to remain untouched until it was dried completely. I had several large items like my washer and dryer that I was unable to move, and they happily moved them as well. The process took several days to complete but these guys are awesome from the beginning with Robert the rep who assessed what was needed explained the process that I could expect, and broke the price-tag to me, LOL, the billing/office manager was great to work with, and the crew who showed up to do the work. Robert was also patient with my panic question/texts in the middle of the night. It was after all a large unexpected cost, but worth it in the end. They also explained to me that because it had to dry, they could not move my appliances back until the floor had properly dried but I only needed to call the office and they would get someone to take care of it. When I texted them, they acted with expedited customer service, that day they sent me two guys who came to move the washer and dryer back in place. They showed up and were pleasant and efficient. I did not know what/where my connections were for both the washer and dryer through no fault of the company so I told them it was fine just moving them back would be enough and to just leave it was fine. I would get someone else to hook them up after I purchased the connections. Shortly after that, I received a call from their office saying the guys would be returning within the hour to ensure the stuff was connected. I informed them the missing items were not due to their workers, but as soon as I hung up the two guys appeared at my door with connectors for both the washer and dryer. I received a call from the actual owner Constantine who took the time to listen to me rant about the other issues with my new purchase home and check on whether I wanted to move ahead with much-needed gutters, I informed him due to the circumstance that I needed to wait to do the gutters. BUT, I will be giving them a call as soon as I can have them replaced. I can tell you personally you get what you pay for so if you are looking at another company and motivated by cost do yourself a favor and call these guys, you will not be disappointed. They were worth every dime well QUARTER I spent, and if they replace it, service it, or install it they will be my go-to. I am currently stress-free with all water in my basement concerns, and 150% satisfied with every aspect of the install and customer service. AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!!!!"

"Steve contacted me on the same day that I submitted a request for an estimate by phone.  He came for the estimate within a few days and the work was done in 10 days after I made an initial call.  He was very punctual and his work was very thorough.  Best of all, he sent me very frequent e-mail messages about his schedule, confirmation, and so forth.  I definitely recommend him for small or large demolition work.  "

"Pat fixed a badly leaking foundation in a 90 year old house. He followed up after the next rain storms and fixed the few new spots as well. His attention to detail is the best part. He wants to do the job right. Since then I have also had him do some extensive landscaping, building an access road to a part of the yard that had been unreachable, as well as excavating and pouring cement. Again, outstanding work and attention to detail. Hire him the job will be done right."

FAQs for excavation major grading or resloping projects in Great Barrington, MA

You can excavate in winter, but frozen soil slows down the process and increases labor costs. Many grading companies offer discounted rates during their off-season, so ask for a winter quote and weigh the savings against a longer timeline. A brief conversation with a local professional will help determine whether cold-weather excavation is suitable for your site.

Foundation digs can be completed in as little as three days or take up to three weeks. Soil density, access, weather, and hidden obstacles all play a role, so every timeline is a bit different. Have your contractor walk the site and flag any potential issues early—clear expectations help keep both the schedule and budget on track.

You must always call 811 before excavating. Dial 811 a few days in advance so that utility crews can mark underground lines and ensure the area is safe for digging. Hitting a buried cable or gas pipe can be both dangerous and expensive, and many municipalities will not issue permits unless the site is flagged correctly.

To remove soil during an excavation project, your crew will load the spoil into dump trucks with a backhoe or excavator, haul it to a disposal site, and return for the next load. Efficient hauling keeps the work zone clear and the project moving. Depending on the site and volume of osil, multiple trucks may rotate to maintain a steady flow.
