"Rob Bergman was very responsive and very thorough in his analysis. He inspected the areas of concern related to our seepage and his area of expertise. After finding that the grading around the foundation was likely not the problem, he looked at other possible areas of concern and suggested other options. We are taking his advice and calling other contractors. If we were to need any of his services that he could provide in the future, we would definitely give Mastorwork at call."

"Great! The estimate was detailed and right where I thought it might be. Mike and Amede were on-time, professional and totally great to work with. The work was done quickly and everything looks great. I hope to never have to deal with mold or water damage again, but if I do, I'm definitely calling them."

"We had really good results. I would give a glowing referral for them. I called and explained the situation and he and I arranged a time for him to come out and eyeball the situation. He worked several hours and it was pretty major work. He cleaned up when he was finished and explained everything to me. He noticed that my drain was clogged and he took it upon himself to clean it. When I told him what my plumbing problems were, he actually looked at my water softener. I had another plumbing service out that said I needed a whole new water softener and he said that he didn't think I had it programmed correctly. He reprogrammed it and it was absolutely fine. The other company had sent out their water softener specialist and said I needed to replace it. We had a willow tree that snapped a power line and didn't know that it needed to be reprogrammed. He was reliable and did good work. I will probably hire him again for more work. He also went over to another house that my husband and I own and fixed a toilet there very quickly. When he is done with the work, he makes sure that it is really repaired. I felt like I was in good hands and he does quality work."

"D&H did not pull building permit as verbally promised. Balked, but finally provided proof of insurance before work started. Total cost listed above includes well over $1,000.00 in unexpected charges. Removed patio and sidewalk, and excavated OK. But only removed/replaced 6 out of the 10 feet of bowed block wall. New wall was still 1.5" out of plumb, and was not high enough to support exterior wall. Per Building Inspector, D&H was forced to install galvanized steel brace to make up the difference. This cost me another $500.00 for inspection/engineering fee, and another $930.00 in labor and materials. D&H didn't lay down plywood to protect my driveway from their heavy tractors. They ruined a portion of my blacktop drive - a parking 'L' large enough for a single car. Since the concrete stoop didn't need to be removed as part of the wall straightening project (as originally quoted) they offered instead to replace the damaged parking L. But they poured it a full 2 feet shorter that the original! This, despite having taken their own pictures of the original patio and drive when they quoted the job. Then they had the nerve to imply that I was trying to get a larger parking space installed for free! What's worse, they didn't use 2" wash stone to back fill the excavated area along the crawl space wall. Instead, they pushed the excavated clay back into the hole, leveled it, and poured the new patio in a span of only four hours without letting it settle. Over the winter, the clay settled away from the new patio, leaving an area approx. 3' x 15' partially un-supported, the ground had sunk 8 to 12 inches several places! To their credit, D&H contracted CRC to mudjack the settled area at no additional cost to me. D&H never came back to level the surrounding ground. Instead, they delivered 'blended' top soil (read: chock full of exotic weeds). I decided to level it myself, as I was so disgusted with their effort that I didn't want them back on my property. They had the nerve to say they couldn't deliver the top soil and/or arrange for the mudjacking in the spring, because they "had to get some cash flow going". This, coming straight from the owner, Mike Dimmer, who came to my house several times in his brand new turbo-diesel 3.5 ton club cab pickup truck! CRC threatened to place lien on our house when D&H failed to pay them promptly after mudjacking. D&H accused me of having extra work done by CRC at D&H's expense! Job was started in Oct-2007 and not completed until July-2008. Half the summer was over by the time we got to use our new patio. Bottom line - job done, but NOT done right..."

FAQs for excavation major grading or resloping projects in Milwaukee, WI

You can excavate in winter, but frozen soil slows down the process and increases labor costs. Many grading companies offer discounted rates during their off-season, so ask for a winter quote and weigh the savings against a longer timeline. A brief conversation with a local professional will help determine whether cold-weather excavation is suitable for your site.

Foundation digs can be completed in as little as three days or take up to three weeks. Soil density, access, weather, and hidden obstacles all play a role, so every timeline is a bit different. Have your contractor walk the site and flag any potential issues early—clear expectations help keep both the schedule and budget on track.

You must always call 811 before excavating. Dial 811 a few days in advance so that utility crews can mark underground lines and ensure the area is safe for digging. Hitting a buried cable or gas pipe can be both dangerous and expensive, and many municipalities will not issue permits unless the site is flagged correctly.

To remove soil during an excavation project, your crew will load the spoil into dump trucks with a backhoe or excavator, haul it to a disposal site, and return for the next load. Efficient hauling keeps the work zone clear and the project moving. Depending on the site and volume of osil, multiple trucks may rotate to maintain a steady flow.
