"Willie Rafael, the owner of Willie's Tile, explained that he was very busy with Angie's List recommended work, and it took several weeks for him to be able to come to our home and quote the job. However, he did come himself and quote the job. We agreed to the price and the work to be done. He said he would call to let us know when the work could be done. I waited several weeks, and then sent Mr. Rafael text messages reminding him of the job we wanted done. After about 9 weeks from the time I first contacted him, the work was scheduled to be done. He had instructed us as to the type and amount of tile to buy and have on hand. Mr. Rafael and a worker came on a Thursday morning. The bathroom toilet was removed along with old linoleum  and carpet. Baseboard and shoe moulding were also removed and set aside. Mr. Rafael left and his worker laid the tile. The worker said that he would "probably" return the next day (Friday) or Saturday. He did not come either day. On Monday, I texted Mr. Rafael and asked him if our worker had been moved to a different job. Mr. Rafael said that the worker would arrive after lunch that day. He also told me that I needed to furnish the grout mix, and a new wax ring for the toilet, items that had not been discussed before. (We also later needed to purchase a water supply line for the toilet connection because the old line was now too short.) The worker arrived as promised and completed the grouting. As the worker was cleaning up and preparing to leave, I asked about the replacement of the toilet and the moulding, etc. Things got a little confusing at this point. There did not seem to be a plan for the toilet to be replaced and the moulding re-installed. However, I asked the worker to call Willie and ask when these things could be done. Briefly, another worker needed to become involved, but by the end of the day, everything had been replaced. We were disappointed that the trash from the job was left for us to remove.
Mr. Rafael is very personable and knowledgeable. I believe he is an expert at what he does. I also believe that he carefully chooses his workers, and he seems to have an excellent network of highly skilled workers. The tile work is beautiful and flawless. I am very happy with the work. I would certainly consider using his company again.
I began to feel as if I was begging/badgering Mr. Rafael to do this small job for us. It may have been too small for his close attention. If I had not continued to text and remind him of our agreement, I do not think the work would have been done. I would have preferred to know "up front" what I needed to furnish. Perhaps this was a failing on my part for not asking specifically. Generally, the job did not go as smoothly as I expected. Much more supervision and initiation of communication was needed on my part for the job to be finished.

"We did a partial rebuild of a brick and concrete stoop as well as some pointing and repair on steps, exterior walls, and hearth. Easily my best experience hiring a contractor ever. Communication was thorough and specific; I always knew project status and expectations. Brandon is friendly, super easy to work with, and shows love for and pride in his work. Work quality is incredible. Not only do my brick and concrete look better than ever before, I know from the detailed planning and regular updates that it's done "right" and made to last. I'm delighted that the first thing people see when they come up to my house now looks this good. Each day the site was left as clean as it was found -- no mess! My spouse was especially happy about that. I've already had unsolicited compliments from a roofer who had never been to my house on it, too: "This looks like you just had it redone, it looks amazing!" And they're right."

"Dan had a tricky job because the stairway was built around boulders. It also needed to be sturdy because we multiple people go down these stairs at the same time. Dan provided an estimate, stuck to his price, came on time and did quality work that was to code. Dan is a honest man with excellent carpentry skills."

"We were very satisfied with the work completed yesterday Caleb and his team. Even with all of the weather delays the work was professionally completed. We were out of town for most of the work time, Caleb kept us updated with pictures of the progress and calls with any questions or concerns."

"Matt Bunn and the crew and subs from Wheelhouse Construction transformed an unfinished store room on the second floor of my 1937 home into a beautiful, modern bathroom and walk in closet. I told Matt what I was looking for and he designed the project in a computer program that showed plan and 3D elevations that enabled me to envision the finished project. This was a very complex undertaking and Wheelhouse handled it flawlessly. There was no plumbing in the end of the house where the new bath was to go. So Matt's crew had to figure out how to get supply and drain lines into the area. It required breaking into walls on the first floor and in the basement--but the crew was careful place temporary barriers to contain dust and debris while the work progressed. Budget allowances were provided for flooring, lighting, plumbing fixtures, etc. The allowances were, for the most part, realistic. So they were able to bring the job to completion very close to the original estimate. I am very pleased with the results and can wholeheartedly recommend Wheelhouse for any renovation or new construction project that you may want to undertake."

"CNT showed up on time and ready to begin. They took 5 days from start to finish. They raised the foundation and fixed the trusses and subflooring underneath. Matthew was very thorough in finding the exact point where everything was level again. We are very satisfied with this repair, and while I would hope that we won't have to do this again, I would use CNT in a minute."

FAQs for brick or stone tuck pointing projects in Greenville, SC

Masons charge between $70 and $110 per hour. A mason may have a minimum service fee ranging from $80 to $300. Most bricklayers offer free estimates and charge only if you proceed with the project. This clear pricing model assures that professionals inspect your property before beginning work and charge based on your project’s actual requirements.

A professional repointing lasts 20 to 30 years without maintenance and extends up to 50 years when maintained diligently. This process protects your brickwork using high-quality materials that ensure lasting performance and durability. Consistent upkeep preserves its strength and appearance, providing enduring protection and enhancing your home’s overall structural integrity for decades.

You know your house needs repointing when you notice clear signs such as cracked, flaking, or missing mortar and visible discoloration on the brick surfaces. Additional indicators include loose bricks, water damage, and gaps between the brick joints that compromise the overall integrity of the structure. Addressing these issues promptly protects your investment and sustains the durability and curb appeal of your home.

A house needs repointing to preserve both its structural integrity and visual appeal. Mortar acts as a vital bonding agent that holds the bricks securely together. When the mortar deteriorates, it exposes the structure to water infiltration and further decay, increasing the risk of costly repairs. Repointing stops decay and reinforces the exterior, ensuring long-term protection.
