"great, from the first visit from Bruce to evaluate my radon problem, giving me suggestions & an estimate, everything went smoothly. They did the work today 8/9. "Radon level was 11.5 before remediation and .24 after, so the result could not have been better. The installer, Dave, was first class from start to finish and owner Marc graciously adjusted his schedule to fit me in sooner as I requested. My only complaint was the price, and only because the home inspector who tested the radon levels told me the cost would be $800 to $1,500. My realtor said about $1,000."

"We were extremely pleased with Ron's professionalism and his work. The system that he installed exceeded our expectations. The unit was placed in a very discreet location. Ron maintained a neat working environment and thoroughly cleaned up after the work was completed. He was extremely responsive to any questions that we had, both before and after the installation. The system works better than we anticipated. After the unit was installed, we conducted an independent radon test and discovered that our radon numbers had dropped from a 9.0 (the number before the unit was installed) to a 0.7. Throughout the installation, Ron was honest and upfront as well as personable and trustworthy. He was also very kind to our dog! We would enthusiastically recommend him to anyone looking to have similar work done to their home."

"Everyone from Allied (4 inspectors + termite inspector which was outsourced to an independent contractor) were wonderfully professional, polite, helpful and more than competent. I had a tight deadline, so one inspector even came out 2 days early which was a holiday to preset the radon and collect a water sample. This allowed results to be delivered to me on the day of inspection. <br />Our inspection was for a working commercial property and had to be conducted while customers were on the premises. I can't say enough good things about how professional, considerate and discreet they were as they moved around the building. <br />My very detailed final report was emailed to by early evening on the same day of inspection. It was easy to read and understand and contained pictures of everything discussed in the report. <br />Even the support staff in the office made scheduling the inspection easy. Everything was explained thoroughly, forms were simple and easy to use on line. Everything happened exactly as if been told it would. <br />I would readily recommend Allied and will use them again in the future. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Reading, PA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
