"I received 3-5 quotes (and a half-quotes) and schedules from various asphalt pavement installers - Hardrock was the highest quote offered but only by $1000 or so including the special sealing option which no one else offered. You really need to have pavement done right the first time, otherwise the 'rip-up' to fix it later on alone will cost just as much as the original job. My $12k driveway job was for ~150' single lane and a big driveway pad off the house, included 4"-6" of compacted QB gravel base then 3"-4" of I5 asphalt, then included the $2000 special chemical seal coating treatment that can only be done right after laying hot asphalt and avoids the need for bi-yearly sealing for the first 7-10 years. From my research, this design and plan exceeded what most people do for a residential driveway. The 'actual' laying of foundation materials and the pavement from what I witnessed appeared more than what was contracted, and has held up perfectly for the first year so far. No sinking or cracking - there are only a few rock-pebble pops over the entire driveway. Ideally, if you can avoid using the driveway for a full month after install - that will reduce scuffs from deliveries and visitors as the pavement needs about a month or more (actually months through the hot summer) to fully set-in and cure. The owner was present and working the job for about 2/3 of the day, and overall the team of 8-10 guys did a great job. Pavement was laid while it was sunny. I can recommend Hardrock for those who want a strong driveway done right"

"This is follow up to my previous post that I wish I could remove. I wish I could post my pictures here. He was hired to do my driveway with an apron and level my property to avoid water build up. I contacted him 10 months after the job was completed to let him know that all the pavers in my apron were coming up and weeds were coming through. He never called back, I sent him an email and he also never got back to me. I had to contact another contracter only to tell me that the job was not done properly. In addition, my property is still like a little lake. After more than thousands+ dollars, I would use someone else. He is not responsible. DO NOT USE"

"This review is long overdue. I contacted Sealpro Mahwah because I have seen their work in several driveways in the neighborhood. I can literally see why they are recommended. Their work looked very good on every driveway that i saw. I contacted the business and response time was very good. I spoke w Lou and he was upfront, honest and very nice. We discussed work that needed to be done- sealcoating and crack fills. We were able to negotiate the quote. I admit the quote was not the lowest of the three bids I received from companies BUT Lou seemed the most upfront of what we could expect. I was comfortable on price we landed on and very happy I went with SealPro. I have recommended to my neighbors and would use them again. Thank you to Lou, his crew and everybody at SealPro."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
