"Scheduling the appointment was slow. We first contacted Leadtec at the end of August, exchanged a couple emails, and then didn't hear from them for a week, and had to re-contact them before an appointment got scheduled. On the day of the appointment, Susan was a bit late, but she called to let me know she was running behind. Once the inspection started, it went really well. Susan walked through everything she was doing and explained the process and the test. She was clearly knowledgable about lead and lead testing, and answered all questions clearly and confidently. In the end, she took 75$ off the price because the appointment went faster than she expected. <br />"

"Everything went smoothly. The inspector had me execute remedial lead removal on a few fireplace face bricks that tested positive. I did that and was issued a Lead Free certificate, filed with MD Dept. of the Environment."

"Paul showed up about 10 to 15 minutes late. A bit of traffic. He apologized once he arrived. We chatted for about 5 to 10 minutes about the lead inspection process. We walked through the house so he could determine where to test and how many test sites there were. In all Paul tested 4 areas. One spot on the kitchen floor. One in the living room on the carpet. One in the bedroom on the window sill. One in the bathroom on the floor. He used something like a wet-wipe to swab the 12 inch square test area and then put the used wipes into separate containers. <br /> After the testing we chatted some more. He told us that he used to be a lab technician for about 17 years analyzing the wipes (and the lead dust levels) before shifting to becoming an inspector. In our parting conversation he seemed to have the impression that I was renting the house out instead of purchasing the house. This came up again later on during the lab analysis stage. He also told me that I could call the department of the environment to get a tracking number that would allow my lead inspection to be registered. Once I called this number for the DofE, they told me that they only issue this tracking number for rentals, and that there was like a $30 dollar fee. I told them I was not using the residence as a rental. They told me I didn't need to get the tracking number. I then relayed this conversation to Paul who apologized for assuming I'd be renting the house instead of using it as a primary residence. <br /> Paul told me he would get back in touch with me by Wednesday the following week with the results, possibly sooner. Once the due day passed with no contact I initiated contact with him. He apologized for not getting back to me. Within a day or two he emailed the inspection results along with a grid / drawing showing the locations of the test sites. <br /> The residence did not pass due to one spot that had lead dust on the windowsill due to having a replacement window--the dust had been released during the replacement process. Paul communicated that I needed to clean the contaminated area and then have him retest. <br /> <br /> Paul stayed in contact with me. Good follow up. We scheduled a time for him to come back to retest one area. He was available. Showed up on time and got the job done efficiently. Charged $31. A few days later I got back the results. Thanks Paul."

"The owner, Wade Allen returned my call very promptly.  He explained the entire process of lead inspection (for my newly-acquired multi-unit rental property in Mt Vernon) and was punctual for our appointment and very knowledgable and educational.  He collected dust samples from the windows and although there are a few small items that need to be done to get my lead cert, he understood the intricacies of the fact that it is a 100+ year old brownstone that both has lead paint and is in a historic district so there are restrictions.  He went over and above by educating me on how I could handle most of the items myself and how/what I would need.  Overall great guy and company to deal with. "I am in the process of house hunting and I have had Robert with RC Air & Mold Solutions conduct mold inspection and testing on two properties. Since I was exposed to toxic mold at my previous residence, Robert's knowledge and expertise were needed and appreciated. He fully explained his process, was prompt in completing his inspection, and followed up with both verbal and written reports. He was pleasant to work with and patiently addressed all questions. I highly recommend RC Air & Mold Solutions."

"Aaron was prompt (actually got there early), professional and pleasant. We had an accepted contract on an investment property and he was checking it out to see what items would need addressing. I had also asked an electrician to go through the house the next day to give me a quote on what it would cost to bring the place up to code. The electrician did catch one item that was against code that Aaron had missed (the thermostat wire was run along with -inside- a duct vent) BUT the house was built in 1958 and he had a lot of ground to cover. The inspection took over three hours- he was thorough. He left radon testing in place and had to follow up in a few days to pick it up and send off for testing. He followed up after the radon results came back. All in all a great job- I would hire him again. <br>"

"<p>I was in the market for a realtor to help  sell our home.  I turned to Angie's List and found Mrs. Proffitt's name - based on her ratings, she comes highly recommended. I was SUPER excited about talking with her...I loved that she has home staging experience. I called her to set up an appointment last week ... I phoned, I received an auto text saying that she couldn't come to the phone - which is totally fine.  She called me back later in the day, I missed her call and phoned her 15 minutes after and did not receive an answer.  I waiting all weekend for a return call and never received it.  I still never received a call until 3 days later.   Then when she called back I didn't answer, she left a message for me saying that since I had a Washington DC number that she doesn't serve that area.  Well... I actually was selling my home in Harford County (I just never changed my phone number) so that should have never been a factor. </p> <p>I know this isn't a big issue...but I think its important, especially when you are in this line of work.  Of course, I know I I am not entitled to a call back but since I was asked for feedback about this realtor, I thought I'd contribute.</p> <p>We did end up selling our home with an awesome realtor, within 2 weeks and at a great price.  </p> <p><br /></p> <p><br /></p> <p>_____________________________________</p> <p>Response to Mrs. Proffitt's response on 14 April 16:</p> <p>Mrs. Proffitt - I thank God that it turned out well for you and that you didn't have cancer, I truly mean that -- I have had that happen twice to people very close to me (my mother and grandmother)  and it didn't work out so positively....God had other plans for them. That being said, I can totally understand that and wouldn't wish that on anyone. Glad all is went well with the test. </p> <p>And yes, it is none of my business...especially something that personal...You left a voice message on my phone telling me that you were going out/were out of town  so I had no idea that you where not accepting clients at the time and would have not bothered you while you were going through something so horrid. I am apologize for that. </p> <p><br /></p> <p>I'm see you have my phone number - I did received your message today (I'm not one for the phone really) - thank you for that.  I'll change my review because if you were willing to discuss your personal medical matters on a website for all, then this review truly must mean that much to you and I wouldn't want to tarnish anyone's reputation.  Hope your business continues to thrive. </p> <p><br /></p>"

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Havre De Grace, MD

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
